Dorothy Bohm is widely considered one of the doyennes of British photography. To date, however, there has not been a major retrospective of her career and oeuvre, which span six decades (from the 1940s to the present day) and several continents. This situation is to be changed by an exhibition of some 250 of her photographs at Manchester Art Gallery in 2010. The accompanying book, the most detailed and comprehensive to date, is also the first publication of its kind. Lavishly illustrated with numerous full-page reproductions of the photographs displayed at the exhibition, as well as others not exhibited, the book contains three substantial essays, which cover Bohm's life, her work within the history of photography and visual culture, and her status as a female photographer. The work concludes with an extensive and easy-to-use index of thumbnail reproductions of her work.

About Women is Dorothy Bohm's first book to focus exclusively on the subject of women. Unseen London Paris New York written by Katy Barron and has been published by Ben Uri Gallery this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05 with categories.

* A fully-illustrated catalog of 60 images by 3 eminent photographers recording first impressions of London, Paris and New York over 3 crucial decades (1930s-1960s) * Images cover some of the most crucial decades of the 20th century, offering fresh perspectives on three great cities * Accompanying an exhibition of same title at Ben Uri Museum & Gallery, London (20 May - 27 August) The first publication to bring together three major twentieth-century photographers - Wolfgang Suschitzky, Dorothy Bohm and Neil Libbert - presenting their artistic responses to three great world cities across three crucial decades. Today, London, Paris, and New York are so familiar that it is hard for a modern viewer to imagine them afresh without the visual expectations fostered by art, film and advertising in the digital age. Yet when each of these photographers arrived at their respective destinations, they found cities that were strange and new to them and responded by photographing them without prejudice or expectation. The photographs reveal that all three cities were not only places of social division and political tension, but also of beauty and magic. The publication and exhibition includes many works never previously exhibited in the UK, and each series presents an opportunity to view an aspect of the work of a renowned photographer in real depth. Contents: Essay by Katy Barron; Interview with Wolfgang Suschitzy by Zelda Cheatle; Interview with Dorothy Bohm by Michael Berkowitz; Interview with Neil Libbert with Jessica Feather; Biographies.
