Esteban Cortijo (1952, Cañamero, Cáceres) es Doctor en Filosofía y Licenciado en Periodismo, pero se dedica a la enseñanza como catedrático de Bachillerato para vivir y a distintas actividades culturales para "desvivirse". La huella de sus inquietudes aparece en distintas publicaciones dedicadas al mundo rosoluniano, así como a la enseñanza y a Extremadura. El centro de estas iniciativas es ahora el Ateneo de Cáceres, que preside desde su fundación en el 2000. Algunos de sus libros, como La casa del marqués (1987), Para que vuelvas a Guadalupe (1988), Rosa-ae (1990), La Revista de Extremadura. Perspectivas (2002) los recuerda como una gran experiencia individual y colectiva. También quisiera poner en manos de los lectores varios inéditos de Roso de Luna sobre Asturias y una selección de sus leyendas.

Hombres y documentos de la filosofía española, la obra mayor en siete tomos de Gonzalo Díaz, ha necesitado para nacer completa casi un cuarto de siglo (1980-2003). Es normal que en tan largo periodo de tiempo no haya podido recoger en las sucesivas entregas alfabéticas a filósofos que en el momento de ver luz el tomo correspondiente a la letra de sus apellidos, o no tenían, por su juventud, un número mínimo suficiente de publicaciones, o no pudieron ser incluidos en su momento a pesar de su madurez. En vista de ello, Gonzalo Díaz y María Dolores Abad, su esposa, pensaron en unos addenda que dieran cuenta de los "ausentes", más un tomo de índices destinado a organizar sistemáticamente la ingente cantidad de materiales acumulada. Pero varias circunstancias impedieron que los creadores de esta magna obra pudieran rematar su proyecto. Pues bien, condiciones favorables que se dieron en el primer quinquenio de nuestro siglo en el entorno del hispanismo filosófico español, han permitido que el benemérito esfuerzo del matrimonio Díaz-Abad pueda continuar, y su diccionario, obra única en su género por abarcar toda la historia española y toda la enciclopedia filosófica, se haya ahora enriquecido y actualizo, pues la mayor parte de los autores aquí incluidos, nacidos entre 1930 y 1970, son testimonio fidedigno de una parte de la filosofía que hoy se hace en España. Cuando estén publicados todos los Addenda, se habrá cerrado en papel la más importante obra bio-bibliográfica de la filosofía española; obra de necesaria consulta para quien desee aproximarse al patrimonio filosófico español de todos los tiempos. Modernity's Metonyms considers the representation of temporal frameworks in stories by the nineteenth-century Spanish authors, Leopoldo Alas and Antonio Ros de Olano. Adopting a metonymic approach_exploring the reiteration of specific associations across a range of disciplines, from literature, philosophy, historiography, to natural history_Modernity's Metonyms moves beyond the consideration of nineteenth-century Spanish literary modernity in terms of the problem of representation. Through an exploration of the associations prompted by three themes, the railway, food, and suicide, it argues that literary modernity can be considered as the expression of the perception that a linear model of time bringing together the past, the present and the future, was fragmenting into a proliferation of simultaneous moments. It draws French, German, American and British writers into discussion of stories by the canonical author Alas, and Ros de Olano, an author who is receiving increasing attention from scholars of nineteenth-century Spanish literature. Recent scholarship in the field of nineteenth-century Spanish literature and culture has challenged the thesis of 'retraso,' the thesis that Spain lagged far behind its European neighbors. Building on this scholarship, this monograph incorporates shorter works of experimental prose fiction into discussions of nineteenth-century literary modernity in Spain. It further expands the field by combining analysis of the writing of the canonical author, Leopoldo Alas with stories by Antonio Ros de Olano, whose work has been receiving increasing attention from scholars in the field. Rather than thinking of these works in terms of the ways they conform to established models provided by either contemporaneous French and British works, or by fin de siglo and early twentieth-century Spanish literature, Modernity's Metonyms works inductively. It builds outwards from the seven stories studies, identifying patterns of associations shared with writing by figures as diverse as Ludwig Feuerbach, Thomas Carlyle, Emilio Castelar, Briere de Boismont, P.J. Cabanis, or Jean-Anselme Brillat-Savarin. The seven stories discussed are Alas's 'Do-a Berta,' 'Zurita,' 'Cuervo' and 'Cuento futuro,' and Ros de Olano's 'Jornadas de retorno escritas por un aparecido,' 'Maese Cornelio TOcito,' and 'La noche de mOscaras.'

Se reúnen en México heterodoxo varios ensayos relativos a la literatura mexicana del siglo XIX, sobre todo de su segunda mitad, así como de las dos primeras décadas del XX, las que, aunque no comparten cronología, sí comulgan todavía en buena parte con la ideología de la vieja centuria, todo ello en un contexto panhispánico. Los autores estudiados aparecen marcados por un gesto heterodoxo, ya sea por el género abordado -lo fantástico, sobre todo-, ya sea por la ideología religiosa y filosófica que sostiene el texto: secularizante aunque al mismo tiempo cercana a las nuevas formas ocultistas de entonces, en especial la teosofía y el espiritismo. Se trata de aproximaciones parciales a autores y textos narrativos de México e Hispanoamérica, en los que se encuentran esas marcas desviantes de la dominante tradición realista, naturalista y costumbrista, y que salieron a la superficie de forma más sistemática con el modernismo finisecular, pero cuyas semillas se incubaban desde antes en escritores no modernistas previos como, en México, Manuel Payno, Pascual Almazán o Pedro Castera, entre los aquí abordados, aunque hay otros. Así, el título alude a México como campo de estudios literarios, pero no aislado sino inmerso en un contexto internacional. El enfoque de crítica literaria seguido aquí es de tipo histórico y cultural, atento a las corrientes estéticas, religiosas, ocultistas y filosóficas que conformaron los textos y la época, con una buscada impronta comparatista.
