Spending the summers growing up on my uncles farm was, for me, an education in learning about my life on the farm. Much of my time was spent in observing how my uncles milked the cows teats and how they led them afterward out to the field to eat and rest. I watched the horses, as they too, were led to the fields where they rested after pulling the wagons filled with hay into the barn. I saw the trees which had been planted years before and had grown protecting everyone from the heat of the summer sun. And I learned to play baseball with children from nearby farms who challenged me and my friends to win. I learned about the mothers who came with their children to the country to escape the sweltering city and to gratefully breathe the country air and then to welcome their tired husbands and childrens fathers on weekends. I grew up thankful for all that I experienced in those years and I remain thankful to this day, for all I have learned.

This book is the humorous reminiscences of an Indiana Farmer from Monroe Country. The Bailey farm on "That Road" in Bloomington IN was purchased by Roy Bailey, Jerry's father, in 1944. Jerry Bailey, Roy and Viola's 9th child, was born January 15th 1939 in northern Monroe County, IN.You will follow Jerry as he goes from child, to adult, married young man, father, grandfather and then great grandfather Jerry spent the majority of his life influenced and molded by trying to make a living through farming the land. Life was simpler during his formative years, three generations ago, when almost all roads outside of Bloomington center were gravel and twisted their way though and around quarry holes and creeks that flowed through the "bottoms", when dairy farms were the norm, when most of the children going to school came from these farms. For Jerry even as a young child, funny jokes and laughs were his way of interacting with the world around him. Life is never dull when one is drawn into Jerry's sphere of influence. Please sit down relax and enjoy these Jerry's farming antidotes placed in central Indiana and spanning six decades.

Now in paperback for the first time, here is the classic version of a car lover's fairy tale: You look into an old abandoned barn or garage or warehouse--and there's the car you've searched for your whole life. Here are the true stories of people who found their dream cars in the most unlikely places: A man finds one of three King Cobras ever built in a junkyard in South Carolina; another discovers a rare Delahaye in a barn in the former Czech Republic; yet another answers an obscurely written ad in a local paper to discover a Triumph TR3 that had run the Daytona 24 Hour race in the early 1960s. The list goes on and on, and the stories never get old. Relive the excitement, glory in the astounding discoveries, and revel in the cars that keep dreams alive. Norton written by George Yelle and has been published by Arcadia Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-02 with History categories.

Located in southeastern Massachusetts, the college town of Norton has changed considerably since its inception in 1711. What first began as a small agricultural community soon turned into a town of small industries and businesses, and eventually into what it is now--a comfortable bedroom town with a history as interesting as it is long. Norton chronicles the changes that have taken place over the years. Readers can learn about the unique histories of Norton Center, Barrowsville, Chartley, East Norton, Meadowbrook, and Winnecunnet--the charming villages that make up Norton. Winnecunnet Pond has been a center of recreational activities for years, and is said to have been a fishing and hunting spot for King Phillip. Early images of Wheaton College document the growth of what would become the largest landowner in town, as well as a significant influence in its history. One also learns in this volume about early industry, religion, and social life in Norton, but most importantly, the people--immigrants and native-born who made Norton grow and thrive into a community. Norton has become a town with a rich history and a strong sense of both its past and its future.

Written with the grace and quiet beauty of her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Barn Blind is a spellbinding story on the classic American themes of work, love, and duty, and the lengths we will go to achieve success. The verdant pastures of a farm in Illinois have the placid charms of a landscape painting, but the horses that graze there have become the obsession of a woman who sees them as the fulfilment of every wish: to win, to be honoured, to be the best. Her ambition is the galvanizing force in Jane Smiley's first novel, a force that will drive a wedge between her and her family, and bring them all to tragedy . . .
