Author and storyteller Thomas Laurence Shanklin is an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church and an alumnus of Drew University Theological School. His specialized field of study is Methodist history and he has also written extensively on Biblical themes. In Downeast-Upcountry, he shares stories, folklore and memoirs from the Shanklin family's years in Hatfield Point, New Brunswick, Canada. Thomas and his father, Harold MacKenzie Shanklin (1896-2002), who lived to be 106, are direct descendents of Captain Thomas Spragg, Loyalist, who came to New Brunswick in 1784 from Hempstead, Long Island.
