Rheology: Concepts, Methods and Applications, Third Edition provides a thorough historical and theoretical grounding in the field, and introduces rheology as the method of solving many practical problems in materials science and engineering. The book is practical and relevant for industry, but is also consistent with rheology courses in academia, making it relevant to both academics and accomplished rheologists in industry. The first four chapters discuss various aspects of theoretical rheology and, through examples from numerous studies, show how particular theories, models, or equations can be used in solving different problems. The shared experience and insight contained in these chapters assists practitioners carrying out rheological studies in generating relevant data. This helps to avert costly errors in analysis which are common when data are generated under the wrong conditions, or are incorrectly used. The fifth chapter covers methods of measurement and treatment of raw data—eight groups of methods are discussed in this chapter, providing the reader with many options for experimentation, along with guidance on where and how to use them properly. The final chapter demonstrates how to use rheological methods for different groups of products and manufacturing methods. The usefulness of chemorheological (rheokinetical) measurements is also emphasized. The chapter has a particular emphasis on real-world applications of rheology, and gives practical guidance to enable materials scientists to gather data and solve problems using these methods. This book is a systematic presentation of the subject of rheology—written by two of the foremost researchers in the field—showing the subject as an interrelated system of concepts, principal phenomena, experimental methods, and directions of their application. It also links with other branches of theoretical and applied sciences. - Provides substantial experience and insight to assist rheologists working in a range of industries to generate relevant data, avoiding costly errors in analysis - Includes eight groups of measurement methods, providing the reader with options so they can choose the most effective for their situation - Offers thorough coverage of different applications of rheology, demonstrating how to use rheological methods for different products—from polymeric materials to food products, biological fluids, and electro and magnetic materials

Rheology Of Filled Polymer Systems written by A.V. Shenoy and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-09 with Science categories.
Polymerie materials have been replacing other conventional materials like metals, glass and wood in a number of applications. The use of various types of fillers incorporated into the polymer has become quite common as a means of reducing cost and to impart certain desirable mechanieal, thermal, electrieal and magnetic properties to the polymers. Oue to the energy crisis and high priees of petrochemieals, there has been a greater demand to use more and more fillers to cheapen the polymerie materials while maintaining and/or improving their properties. The advantages that filled polymer systems have to offer are normally offset to some extent by the increased complexity in the rheological behavior that is introduced by the inclusion of the fillers. Usually when the use of fillers is considered, a compromise has to be made between the improved mechanieal properties in the solid state, the increased difficulty in melt processing, the problem of achieving uniform dispersion of the filler in the polymer matrix and the economics of the process due to the added step of compounding. It has been recognized that addition of filler to the polymer brings a change in processing behavior. The presence of the filler increases the melt viscosity leading to increases in the pressure drop across the die but gives rise to less die swell due to decreased melt elasticity.

Manufactured Fibre Technology provides an accessible and comprehensive treatment of the chemical, physical and mechanical processes involved in the production of all important commodity manufactured fibres and most of the industrial fibres. The emphasis is on the fundamental principles and industrial aspects of production. Latest developments in manufactured fibres in terms of manufacturing processes, characteristics and their applications are also covered. Manufactured Fibre Technology is designed around twenty chapters with a balance of basic principles and production of specific fibre types. Newer and industrially relevant areas such as high speed spinning, production of speciality fibres (including microfibres), computer simulation of spinning, high performance fibres, spun-bonding and melt-blowing, and re-use of fibre waste are included. The structure, property and application areas of each fibre type are also discussed, thus providing a broad understanding of the subject. In addition, various aspects related to the testing and characterisation of fibres and polymers are reviewed. This book is an invaluable resource to students, lecturers, industrial technologists and researchers in this subject area.

Synthetic fibres account for about half of all fibre usage, with applications in every field of fibre and textile technology. Although many classes of fibre based on synthetic polymers have been evaluated as potentially valuable commercial products, four of them - nylon, polyester, acrylic and polyolefin - dominate the market. These four account for approximately 98% by volume of synthetic fibre production, with polyester alone accounting for around 60%.Synthetic fibres: nylon, polyester, acrylic, polyolefin provides a brief history of the early evaluations that led to this situation, then looks in detail at the development and present status of each class in four substantial chapters. Synthesis of chemical intermediates, polymerisation methods, fibre spinning and orientation technology, texturing techniques, production of microfibres, and chemical variants, e.g. for modified dyeability, are considered in detail. This comprehensive and accessible book will appeal to textile technologists in industrial and academic research, chemical and synthetic fibre suppliers, and yarn and fabric manufacturers. - Comprehensive overview of four major fibres
