With so many money management books on the market, I decided to write this book from the perspective of two of my grandchildren. In 174 pages adorned with cartoons and other graphics, I try to offer guidance on money and markets in a style devoid of jargon. There are no short, easy methods for doubling your money. The book is, however, a road map to help traverse today's baffling financial highways. My investing ideas, drawn from 45 years of money management and teaching experience, are keyed strictly to a get-rich slowly strategy. Stockbrokers may not like the strong warnings aimed at not-so-independent advisers. Stock investing is my investment of choice with a dedication to fundamental valuation for long-term investing planning today for financing young children's education as well as retirement planning for adults. My dedication to stock investing stems from statistical comparisons compiled by a leading research firm which shows over a 68 year period, stocks have outperformed bond, Treasuries and bank CD's by wide margins. For most, my best bet is to invest in well-chosen, no-load mutual funds. Hold for the long term, put in a fixed amount periodically and do not withdraw dividends. That's my strategy.

A collection of serious and not so serious short stories from the coast of Maine. Some of these stories are intended to amuse, and some may touch a chord and bring a tear. But they are all intended to help pass some leisure time, perhaps while waiting for the kids to get home from school, or the even the winter to pass into spring. No guarantee is given concerning the political correctness of any of these stories, but when reading one should remember that some people actually enjoy satire. And for those who do not, the author humbly submits that perhaps those who can't laugh at history may be worrying about the wrong things.

In the end, we either run or we die.” After her mother's suicide, fifteen year-old Lane Roanoke came to live with her grandparents and fireball cousin, Allegra, on their vast estate in rural Kansas. Eleven years later, Lane is adrift in Los Angeles when her grandfather calls to tell her Allegra has gone missing. Did she run too? Or something worse? Unable to resist his pleas, Lane returns to help search, and to ease her guilt at having left Allegra behind. Her homecoming may mean a second chance with the boyfriend whose heart she broke that long ago summer. But it also means facing the devastating secret that made her flee, one she may not be strong enough to run from again. As it weaves between Lane’s first Roanoke summer and her return, The Roanoke Girls shocks and tantalizes, twisting its way through revelation after mesmerizing revelation, exploring the secrets families keep and the fierce and terrible love that both binds them together and rips them apart.

Stories From The Round Barn written by Jacqueline Dougan Jackson and has been published by Northwestern University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Using stories, anecdotes, history, and even veterinary science, Jackson braids together a series of dramatic fragments and episodes to vividly recreate life on the Dougan dairy farm. Founded in 1911 by W.J. Dougan near Beloit, Wisconsin, the Dougan farm, with its unusual round barn, is symbolic of a vanishing era. A renowned farm which was among the first to introduce many aspects of modern dairying to its operation, the Dougan farm eventually became a victim of agribusiness-style dairying and was closed. As Jackson recreates the texture and tone of life on the farm, larger themes emerge: the constant balancing between material life and spirit, the quest for humane values within a hard world of business and labor, the difficult lessons fundamental to childhood.
