About the Book At the age of forty seven years old, and looking back on my life I realized how destructive my life was and decided to share it with anticipation I can help others. At the age of twelve years old when most parents think they know their children, many of them really do not. For some reason at age twelve there are so many challenges and decision for them to make. The thought of having a crush on someone come into their lives. Thinking about sex and possibly testing the waters with drugs as well. It is hard for a parent to imagine their little child thinking along those lines, but it happens. At the age of twelve, children begin to test the waters never knowing the full consequences for their actions. What seems so simple and harmless is a silent act of destruction and possible death. I thought I knew everything, and I became addicted to drugs only to learn the hard way, coming close to death on at least three occasions. This book is about the life of a twelve year old child that one was innocent and fell to destruction. This book is about an innocent child who loved playing sports, loved life and never knew how easily life changed in a matter of a few years. This book is about the life a twelve year old on the verge of death, only to survive to tell his story.

Widely praised as a controversial but thoughtful alternative to drug control policies of its time, the first edition of The Great Drug War was released in 1987 by Macmillan Publishing. More than 20 years later, it is clear that the drug interdiction policies of the eighties and nineties failed, and that Trebach's alternative proposals deserve a new look from today's perspective. This new edition ... includes a new introduction covering more recent developments in the use of medical marijuana, the relationship between drug trafficking and terrorism, and other fresh new material, renewing an important book for a new generation of readers.

Great Heroin Coup written by Henrik Krüger and has been published by TrineDay this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-31 with History categories.

In this new edition of a cult classic, Henrik Krüger and Jerry Meldon have added new material and provided updates of the investigations Danish investigative author Henrik Krüger set out to write a book about Christian David, a French criminal with a colorful past, and wound up writing a book—originally published in 1980—that spans all continents and names names all the way up to Richard Nixon. The Nixon administration and CIA wanted to eliminate the old French Connection and replace it with heroin from the Golden Triangle, partly in order to help finance operations in Southeast Asia. The book delves into the relationships between French and U.S. intelligence services and organized crime probing into the netherworld of narcotics, espionage, and international terrorism. It uncovers the alliances between the Mafia, right-wing extremists, neo-fascist OAS and SAC veterans in France, and Miami-based Cuban exiles. It lifts the veil on the global networks of parafascist terrorists who so frequently plot and murder with impunity, thanks to their relationships and services to the intelligence agencies of the so-called "free world." In short, this updated edition tells a story which our own media have systematically failed to tell.

The Risks Of Prescription Drugs written by Donald Light and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Business & Economics categories.

Few people realize that prescription drugs have become a leading cause of death, disease, and disability. Adverse reactions to widely used drugs, such as psychotropics and birth control pills, as well as biologicals, result in FDA warnings against adverse reactions. The Risks of Prescription Drugs describes how most drugs approved by the FDA are under-tested for adverse drug reactions, yet offer few new benefits. Drugs cause more than 2.2 million hospitalizations and 110,000 hospital-based deaths a year. Serious drug reactions at home or in nursing homes would significantly raise the total. Women, older people, and people with disabilities are least used in clinical trials and most affected. Health policy experts Donald Light, Howard Brody, Peter Conrad, Allan Horwitz, and Cheryl Stults describe how current regulations reward drug companies to expand clinical risks and create new diseases so millions of patients are exposed to unnecessary risks, especially women and the elderly. They reward developing marginally better drugs rather than discovering breakthrough, life-saving drugs. The Risks of Prescription Drugs tackles critical questions about the pharmaceutical industry and the privatization of risk. To what extent does the FDA protect the public from serious side effects and disasters? What is the effect of giving the private sector and markets a greater role and reducing public oversight? This volume considers whether current rules and incentives put patients' health at greater risk, the effect of the expansion of disease categories, the industry's justification of high U.S. prices, and the underlying shifts in the burden of risk borne by individuals in the world of pharmaceuticals. Chapters cover risks of statins for high cholesterol, SSRI drugs for depression and anxiety, and hormone replacement therapy for menopause. A final chapter outlines six changes to make drugs safer and more effective. Suitable for courses on health and aging, gender, disability, and minority studies, this book identifies the Risk Proliferation Syndrome that maximizes the number of people exposed to these risks. Drug Use For Grown Ups written by Dr. Carl L. Hart and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-01-12 with Social Science categories.

“Hart’s argument that we need to drastically revise our current view of illegal drugs is both powerful and timely . . . when it comes to the legacy of this country’s war on drugs, we should all share his outrage.” —The New York Times Book Review From one of the world's foremost experts on the subject, a powerful argument that the greatest damage from drugs flows from their being illegal, and a hopeful reckoning with the possibility of their use as part of a responsible and happy life Dr. Carl L. Hart, Ziff Professor at Columbia University and former chair of the Department of Psychology, is one of the world's preeminent experts on the effects of so-called recreational drugs on the human mind and body. Dr. Hart is open about the fact that he uses drugs himself, in a happy balance with the rest of his full and productive life as a researcher and professor, husband, father, and friend. In Drug Use for Grown-Ups, he draws on decades of research and his own personal experience to argue definitively that the criminalization and demonization of drug use--not drugs themselves--have been a tremendous scourge on America, not least in reinforcing this country's enduring structural racism. Dr. Hart did not always have this view. He came of age in one of Miami's most troubled neighborhoods at a time when many ills were being laid at the door of crack cocaine. His initial work as a researcher was aimed at proving that drug use caused bad outcomes. But one problem kept cropping up: the evidence from his research did not support his hypothesis. From inside the massively well-funded research arm of the American war on drugs, he saw how the facts did not support the ideology. The truth was dismissed and distorted in order to keep fear and outrage stoked, the funds rolling in, and Black and brown bodies behind bars. Drug Use for Grown-Ups will be controversial, to be sure: the propaganda war, Dr. Hart argues, has been tremendously effective. Imagine if the only subject of any discussion about driving automobiles was fatal car crashes. Drug Use for Grown-Ups offers a radically different vision: when used responsibly, drugs can enrich and enhance our lives. We have a long way to go, but the vital conversation this book will generate is an extraordinarily important step.
