Passive radar systems employing "illuminators of opportunity" such as commercial television and FM radio signals instead of dedicated radar transmitters have been the subject of increasing interest over the past decade. Under the subject contract funds, components for a flexible passive radar testbed were purchased that allow the exploration of many different passive radar architectures over a wide range of frequencies, from the lower VHF TV band (around 50 MHz) to the lower cell phone band (almost to 1 GHz). Particular emphasis is placed on multiple-antenna passive radar systems employing beamforming, i.e. not just two-antenna interferometry, since beamforming passive radar systems have not been previously explored in academic settings. Extensive technical detail on the components is given, so that this report may also serve as a "user's manual" for the system.

This bestselling book – now in its second edition – introduces the basic principles of passive radar technology and provides a comprehensive overview of the recent developments and advances in this field. It shows you how passive radar works, how it differs from the active type, and helps you understand the benefits and drawbacks of this novel technology. The book gives you the knowledge you need to get a full understanding of this fascinating technology. All chapters have been fully revised and updated and are written in a clear and accessible style. New chapters have been added to cover advances in the technology that have already been built and demonstrated, including systems on moving platforms (aircraft and UAVs), as well as advances in types of transmission – notably single-frequency broadcast transmissions, and 5G – and in processing techniques. This book remains an important resource for engineers working in academic, industry, or government research laboratories; academics teaching graduate level students; and those working in the specification and procurement of radar systems who need to understand the performance and limitations of the technology.

Nebraska written by Kwame Dawes and has been published by U of Nebraska Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-01 with Poetry categories.

Kwame Dawes is not a native Nebraskan. Born in Ghana, he later moved to Jamaica, where he spent most of his childhood and early adulthood. In 1992 he relocated to the United States and eventually found himself an American living in Lincoln, Nebraska. In Nebraska, this beautiful and evocative collection of poems, Dawes explores a theme constant in his work—the intersection of memory, home, and artistic invention. The poems, set against the backdrop of Nebraska’s discrete cycle of seasons, are meditative even as they search for a sense of place in a new landscape. While he shovels snow or walks in the bitter cold to his car, he is engulfed with memories of Kingston, yet when he travels, he finds himself longing for the open space of the plains and the first snowfall. With a strong sense of place and haunting memories, Dawes grapples with life in Nebraska as a transplant. Purchase the audio edition.

Today’s cyber defenses are largely static allowing adversaries to pre-plan their attacks. In response to this situation, researchers have started to investigate various methods that make networked information systems less homogeneous and less predictable by engineering systems that have homogeneous functionalities but randomized manifestations. The 10 papers included in this State-of-the Art Survey present recent advances made by a large team of researchers working on the same US Department of Defense Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) project during 2013-2019. This project has developed a new class of technologies called Adaptive Cyber Defense (ACD) by building on two active but heretofore separate research areas: Adaptation Techniques (AT) and Adversarial Reasoning (AR). AT methods introduce diversity and uncertainty into networks, applications, and hosts. AR combines machine learning, behavioral science, operations research, control theory, and game theory to address the goal of computing effective strategies in dynamic, adversarial environments.

Design Of A Space Borne Autonomous Infrared Tracking System written by Matthew B. Kimsal and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-03 with categories.

Complete characterization of the space environment in support of the United States goal of space Situational Awareness is not currently achievable. When confronted with recent increases in the deployment and miniaturization of microsatellites by numerous nations, the questions of foreign space capabilities are magnified. This study sought to determine the feasibility of and experimentally demonstrate a microsatellite capability to autonomously loiter about and track a target satellite. Various methods of passive remote sensing were investigated to determine the best means of detecting and tracking a target in space. Microbolometer-based infrared sensors were identified as the best alternative. A representative system was constructed for demonstration in AFIT s SIMSAT laboratory. Software modeling results identified open-loop instability, and therefore the requirement for closed-loop control. A simple PD control algorithm served as the basis for control, and a pseudo-feed-forward term was added to improve results. The feed-forward term was derived form orbital dynamics as the rate at which the chase satellite traverses around an ellipse formed in the target s frame of reference. Reduction in pointing errors of up to 67% were found in simulations. Successful non-optimal tracking results were obtained in the laboratory with a hardware-in-the-loop model for both step and moving inputs.

Coplanar Air Launch With Gravity Turn Launch Trajectories written by David W. Callaway and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-03-01 with Rockets (Aeronautics) categories.

The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of launching a vehicle based on the Boeing AirLaunch System in a coplanar, direct to rendezvous trajectory with gravity-turn. The focus of the research was to model the launch trajectory and determine the ability to reach different coplanar orbits. The launch trajectory was modeled using two-dimensional equations of motion and a boundary value problem was posed and solved for the gravity-turn trajectory. Trajectories were then created in an attempt to reach different altitudes through coasting and transfer orbits. Finally a specific orbital altitude was chosen and the trajectories were analyzed to find the most efficient route to the target orbit for fuel and time.
