Desde la idea general aportada por el autor de que resulta "difícil encontrar a escala global en la historia reciente un proceso de transición más eficaz y positivo", Antonio Garrigues, a través de numerosos escritos y conferencias suyos, trata de poner en valor esas otras transiciones interrelacionadas entre sí en un escenario poliédrico y apasionante. Y lleva a cabo, al mismo tiempo, el autocrítico ejercicio de mostrar lo que él mismo pensaba entonces y lo que finalmente fue. Su recorrido analítico entre 1956 y 1986 permite revivir, desde una óptica más personal, episodios de gran trascendencia en la reciente historia de España, como la llegada de la multinacional Ford a nuestro país, el golpe de estado del 23-F o el "esplendoroso fracaso" de la Operación Reformista, un intento liberal por quebrar el bipartidismo.
