Nombre d'agglomérations contemporaines françaises et étrangères sont caractérisées par la concentration géographique d'entreprises concurrentes et complémentaires particulièrement présentes sur le marche mondial, et formant collectivement un processus de production plus ou moins complet. L'objectif de cette thèse est de mettre en évidence les fondements économiques de la formation et de l'évolution de ces espaces, en tenant compte de leur diversité des formes d'évolution. Pour cela, nous interrogeons les travaux participant au rapprochement de l'économie industrielle et de l'économie spatiale. dans cette perspective, nous défendons les arguments suivants : - l'abandon de la conception de la firme définie comme un élément isole dont l'organisation interne n'est pas étudiée et est donnée permet d'avancer les premiers arguments économiques de la formation et de l'évolution des agglomérations d'entreprises, en tenant compte de leur diversité des formes d'évolution : - plus précisément, la prise en considération du caractère localise de l'étendue du marche des produits intermédiaires nécessaires a la fabrication d'un bien, dans une problématique de la division du travail, permet de préciser les fondements économiques de la formation d'une agglomération d'entreprises concurrentes et complémentaires, spécialisées dans une étape de la production d'un bien et formant collectivement un processus de production plus ou moins complet.
