Esta dissertação de mestrado aborda a questão da educação a distância e da cultura organizacional, através de um estudo de caso de caráter descritivo-exploratório realizado em uma grande empresa do setor financeiro: o Banco do Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário de pesquisa encaminhado a participantes de cursos a distância realizados por essa empresa, de acordo com Inventário de Valores Organizacionais, modelo elaborado por Tamayo, Mendes e Torres da Paz. A análise dos dados identificou os valores organizacionais mais significativos dessa empresa na percepção de funcionários participantes de cursos de educação a distância e aponta as congruências e as diferenças verificadas entre essas percepções. Esta pesquisa confirma os resultados obtidos através do referido Inventário de Valores Organizacionais e evidencia a existência de valores organizacionais que facilitam e de outros valores organizacionais que dificultam a implementação da educação a distância na empresa, perpassando por todo o quadro funcional da empresa e aparecendo, de forma uniforme, em todos os seus segmentos. Constata-se, também, que não se registram grandes diferenças entres os valores organizacionais percebidos pelos participantes de cursos de educação a distância, o que denota uma grande homogeneidade entre os respondentes.

Richard Clark’s observation that “…media are mere vehicles that deliver instruction but do not influence student achievement any more than the truck that delivers our groceries causes changes in our nutrition” is as misunderstood today as it was when first published in the Review of Educational Research in 1983. The convincing if little read scientific evidence presented by Clark has divided the field and caused considerable concern, especially among the providers of newer media for learning. A collection of writings about the “media effects debate,” as it has come to be called, was published in 2001.
