This is Eerie Comics Volume 1, a compilation of issues 1-4 originally published in 1951. Coming soon: Volume 2: Issues 5-9 originally published in 1952. Volume 3: Issues 10-13 originally published in 1953. Volume 4: Issues 14-17 originally published in 1954. This is a compilation of scanned copies of Eerie Comics Issues #1-4 from 1951. The scanned pages are very good quality and are easy to read, however, since the original comics are over 70 years old there are some imperfections, mostly some slight discoloration due to its age.The original Eerie Comics was a single issue originally published in January of 1947, also called issue #1. It is considered the first true, stand-alone horror comic book and is credited with establishing the horror comics genre. Following the January 1947 issue, Eerie disappeared from newsstand shelves, until it is rebooted in 1951.In 1951, Eerie #1, cover-dated May/June 1951, was published by Avon and saw a run of seventeen issues. The first issue of Eerie reprinted "The Strange Case of Henpecked Harry" from the 1947 Eerie one-shot as "The Subway Horror", and issue #12 printed a Dracula story based on the Bram Stoker novel. Artists Joe Orlando and Wallace Wood were associated with the series. The title saw a run of seventeen issues, ceasing publication with its August/September 1954 issue.

When Eerie Publications hit the scene in the mid-60's they hit upon an interesting idea for writing their horror stories --- they just wouldn't do it. Why pay writers, they apparently thought, when there were so many great horror comic stories already out there? So, Eerie took stories already in print, mostly from the early 1950s, and gave them to artists to redraw in a modern vein, generally more graphic, more gory. Sometimes the original story was reworked, but more often it was redrawn altogether. This was not, strictly speaking, legal --- in fact, it was piracy. Still, either no one noticed, perhaps thinking that the story seemed vaguely familiar at times, or no one was left from those companies to care. Either way, Eerie Publications put out some excellent work, and left comic historians with an interesting study. TERROR TALES was the second-longest-running series for EERIE at 46 issues, and contains some classic examples of the excellent stories of the Golden Age of Horror and the modern artistic interpretation - comic history from Gwandanaland! This book reprints the Issues V1#7-V2#1 --- NOTE: Eerie was not shy about reprinting stories, so you will find a lot of overlap between HORROR TALES and the other Eerie titles.
