The nineteen contributions to this volume approach the subject of Egyptian chronology of the Third Millennium BC from different perspectives: some of them concern the use of modern methods (14C) and natural sciences in Egyptology; others analyze the development of various aspects of the Egyptian culture during the whole period of the Old Kingdom and the First Intermediate Period, or try to specify the date of certain monuments and personalities. A study and interpretation of archaeological as well as textual sources and iconographical material is combined in the papers in order to attain a deeper knowledge and better understanding of the Egyptian chronology, archaeology and history of the Third Millennium BC. This volume presents the findings of a major international project on the application of radiocarbon dating to the Egyptian historical chronology. Researchers from the Universities of Oxford and Cranfield in the UK, along with a team from France, Austria and Israel, radiocarbon dated more than 200 Egyptian objects made from plant material from museum collections from all over the world. The results comprise an accurate scientifically based chronology of the kings of ancient Egypt obtained by the radiocarbon analysis of short-lived plant remains. The research sheds light on one of the most important periods of Egyptian history documenting the various rulers of Egypt's Old, Middle and New Kingdoms. Despite Egypt's historical significance, in the past the dating of events has been a contentious undertaking with Egyptologists relying on various chronologies made up from archaeological and historical records. The radiocarbon dates nail down a chronology that is broadly in line with previous estimates. However, they do rule out some chronologies that have been put forward particularly in the Old Kingdom, which is shown to be older than some scholars thought. The research has implications for the whole region because the Egyptian chronology anchors the timing of historical events in neighbouring areas tied to the reign of particular Egyptian kings. The results will allow for more historical comparisons to be made in countries like Libya and Sudan, which have conducted radiocarbon dating techniques on places of archaeological interest in the past.

Manetho written by Gary Greenberg and has been published by Shangri-La this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Chronology, Egyptian categories.

Delving into the various chronology issues that divide Egyptologist, this study documents scholarship relating to the third-century B.C. Egyptian priest Manetho. Explored is Manetho's account of his country's history, which contained a wealth of information about ancient Egypt with chronological record of all Egyptian kings from the beginning of the first dynasty to the conquest of Egypt by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C. No copy of Manethos original manuscript has been found. This book examines three ancient texts--one from the first-century Jewish historian Josephus, another from the third-century Christian chronographer Africanus, and another from the fourth-century Christian historian Eusebius--that claim to be based on Manetho's history. The ways in which these texts are frequently and substantially inconsistent and at odds with the known chronological record for ancient Egypt are detailed. Covering specific dynasties and providing more general overviews, this book documents the history of and the problems facing Egyptian chronological study.

Synchronized Chronology written by Roger Henry and has been published by Algora Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Bible categories.

Synchronized Chronology resolves the structural problems of Egyptian chronology and then outlines the correct history of the Middle East and Mediterranean from the time of Abraham and his wandering into the Empire of Alexander the Great. Recognizing some overlapping of dates and names in Manetho's List of Kings, frees history to place pharaohs and dynasties where archaeology supports their existence. This resolves a myriad of discrepancies and unlikely assumptions that historians have been forced to swallow, and neatly opens the way to synchronizing Egyptian dynasties with Biblical chronology. Several works have appeared in recent years, challenging Egyptian chronology; none is really successful in fixing the multi-layered problems of Biblical chronology, because they try to compress Egyptian history without recognizing duplicated dynasties. The crisis in Biblical history is reflected in The Bible Unearthed. Palestinian archaeologist William Dever has just published What Did the Biblical Writers Know, and When Did They Know It? Peter James received wide attention for his Centuries of Darkness; David Rohl, in Pharaohs and Kings, relies on the recent archaeological work of Beitak at Tel Dab'a in Egypt. The evidence is compelling that the site's population before the Hyksos took over was none other than the Hebrews. Rohl's work, on the period preceding the Exodus, is complementary to The Synchronized Chronology. Like James, however, he tries to squeeze the remaining Egyptian dynasties without discarding the duplicates. It doesn't work. Anyone who enjoys ancient history, archaeology or a good mystery will find this an intriguing read. The controversial theory is well-researched and sure to generate debate.
