Digital Papyrology I written by Nicola Reggiani and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-11 with History categories.

Since the very beginnings of the digital humanities, Papyrology has been in the vanguard of the application of information technologies to its own scientific purposes, for both theoretical and practical reasons (the strong awareness towards the problems of human memory and the material ways of preserving it; the need to work with a multifarious and overwhelming amount of different data). After more than thirty years of development, we have now at our disposal the most advanced tools to make papyrological studies more and more effective, and even to create a new conception of "papyrology" and a new model of "edition" of the ancient documents. At this turining point, it is important to build an epistemological framework including all the different expressions of Digital Papyrology, to trace a historical sketch setting the background of the contemporary tools, and to provide a clear overview of the current theoretical and technological trends, so that all the possibilities currently available can be exploited following uniform pathways. The volume represents an innovative attempt to deal with such topics, usually relegated into very quick and general treatments within journal articles or papyrological handbooks.

Ancient Worlds In Digital Culture written by Claire Clivaz and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-15 with Religion categories.

The volume presents a selection of research projects in Digital Humanities applied to the “Biblical Studies” in the widest sense and context, including Early Jewish and Christian studies, hence the title “Ancient Worlds”. Taken as a whole, the volume explores the emergent Digital Culture at the beginning of the 21st century. It also offers many examples which attest to a change of paradigm in the textual scholarship of “Ancient Worlds”: categories are reshaped; textuality is (re-) investigated according to its relationships with orality and visualization; methods, approaches and practices are no longer a fixed conglomeration but are mobilized according to their contexts and newly available digital tools.

Wrapping And Unwrapping Material Culture written by Susanna Harris and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-16 with Social Science categories.

This innovative volume challenges contemporary views on material culture by exploring the relationship between wrapping materials and practices and the objects, bodies, and places that define them. Using examples as diverse as baby swaddling, Egyptian mummies, Celtic tombs, lace underwear, textile clothing, and contemporary African silk, the dozen archaeologist and anthropologist contributors show how acts of wrapping and unwrapping are embedded in beliefs and thoughts of a particular time and place. Employing methods of artifact analysis, microscopy, and participant observation, the contributors provide a new lens on material culture and its relationship to cultural meaning.

A forensic document examination team at the Library of Congress studied the handwritten notes of Harry Robbins (H. R.) Haldeman, a chief of staff to President Richard M. Nixon, 1969-1973. These pages were purported to have been created during Mr. Haldeman's 11:30 A.M. meeting with President Nixon on June 20, 1972, in the Executive Office Building, three days after the break-in at the Democratic National Comm. headquarters. This is the same meeting in which 18 minutes of tape-recorded conversation between Mr. Nixon and Mr. Haldeman were erased, prior to the White House tape-recorded conversations being turned over to Judge Sirica in response to a subpoena from the Watergate Special Prosecution Force. Seven pages were selected for this initial hyperspectral imaging examination in order to reveal any latent impressions on the pages; compare ink entries on the selected pages; compare paper substrates of the selected materials; and utilize the unique spectral response of materials (both substrate - paper, and media -- inks) to capture any additional information. This research outlines the usefulness of the application of hyperspectral imaging for non-invasive analysis to answer a range of questions and issues in relation to the examination of the Haldeman papers. Figures and photos of the handwritten pages. This is a print on demand report.
