Das vorliegende Werk beschäftigt sich mit dem Eigentum des Physikers und Nobelpreisträgers Albert Einstein, das während des dritten Reiches von den Nazis konfisziert wurde und dem langen Weg zur Entschädigung. Einsteins Eigentum und das seiner Familie, darunter Wertpapiere, Konten, sein Sommerhaus in Caputh und sein Segelboot, wurde von der Gestapo 1933 mit dem Grund „kommunistische Betätigung“ konfisziert. Das Buch legt die weitgehend unbekannten Fakten zu den Bemühungen von Albert, Elsa und Mileva Einstein um die Aufhebung der Beschlagnahmung dar. Der Autor geht dabei auch auf die Unterstützung der Schweiz und die Prozesse von Albert und Margot Einstein gegen die Bundesrepublik als Rechtsnachfolgerin des Deutschen Reiches ein. Diese führten zu einem späten Erfolg – erst nach dem Ende der DDR und der Herstellung der Einheit Deutschlands konnten die letzten Hürden zur Rückgabe überwunden werden. Über Einstein wurde viel geschrieben und geforscht und man könnte meinen, dass kaum noch etwas Neues zu entdecken wäre. Siegfried Grundmann („Einsteins Akte“, Springer 2004, „The Einstein Dossiers“, Springer 2005) beweist mit dieser Arbeit das Gegenteil: Mit kriminalistisch anmutendem Vorgehen schafft er ein Werk, das den Leser mit in die Historie rund um Einsteins Eigentum nimmt.
