Tumbuhan karamunting (Melastoma malabathricum) tumbuh liar dan menjadi gulma perkebunan rakyat: kopi, kakao, serta kelapa sawit. Namun, suatu ketika pernah dijadikan penahan sakit sementara pada anggota badan yang terserang kalajengking. Saat ini tumbuhan Karamunting yang dikenal sebagai Anggur Kalimantan berubah fungsi sebagai tanaman obat. Tanaman buah yang kaku dan berbunga ungu mencolok tersebut mengandung senyawa golongan flavonoid, steroid, interpenoid, tannin galat, tannin katekat, kunion, termasuk juga unsur mineral. Tak heran jika karamunting mampu mengendalikan gangguan pencernaan, diare, hepatitis, keputihan (leukorea) sariawan, haid, wasir darah, pendarahan Rahim, berak darah, radang pembuluh darah dan kencing manis. Karamunting plant (Melastoma malabathricum) grows wild and becomes a weed for smallholder plantations: coffee, cocoa, and oil palm. However, at one time it was used as a temporary painkiller on the limbs that were attacked by scorpions. Currently the Karamunting plant, known as the Kalimantan grape, has changed its function as a medicinal plant. The fruit plants that are stiff and have striking purple flowers contain flavonoid, steroid, interpenoid, galat tannins, katekat tannins, kunion, including mineral elements. No wonder if karamunting is able to control indigestion, diarrhea, hepatitis, vaginal discharge (leukorea), canker sores, menstruation, blood hemorrhoids, uterine bleeding, bloody poop, inflammation of blood vessels and diabetes. This book “Karamunting Ecology” specifically examines the Aspects of Karamunting Ecology, Protection and Conservation and Breeding of Karamunting. Pertanian merupakan suatu kegiatan manusia dalam memanfaatkan sumber daya hayati untuk dapat menghasilkan bahan pangan, sumber energi, bahan baku industri, dan untuk mengelola lingkungannya. Budidaya tanaman adalah salah satu pelestarian yang saat ini dikenal sebagai suatu pertanian atau metode di dalam produksi tanaman. Pembudidayaan tanaman selalu merangkap segi kelestarian lingkungan, pengurusan tanaman, produksi serta produktivitas suatu usaha tani (farming) yang berbasis tanaman (bercocok tanam). Segi pengurusan tanaman di antaranya suatu cara perbanyakan atau pergandaan tanaman, penataan pertumbuhan tanaman, pemupukan, perawatan tanaman, dan perlindungan tanaman. Segi lingkungan mencakup pengendalian air, penanganan tanah, pengaturan cahaya dan suhu di dalam sistem budidaya tanaman terstruktur, serta pengurusan ekosistem pertanian. Semua aspek pengelolaan bertujuan untuk dapat mencapai produksi maksimum serta konsisten yang berkaitan erat dengan ekonomi. Oleh karena itu, budidaya tanaman tidak hanya memenuhi efisiensi dari produksi maksimum, namun terkait juga pada konsistensi daya dukung lahan dan ketetapan jenis tanaman. Secara garis besar, sistem produksi tanaman adalah usaha (budidaya) tanaman yang bertujuan memanfaatkan energi matahari untuk memproduksi tanaman dengan mengelola dan mencurangi sumberdaya lingkungan dan tanaman.
