Tal persona ya no es un exiliado, un extranjero, un forastero. Es un hijo perdonado y aceptado, un conciudadano de los santos y de la casa de Dios. Sin embargo, un cristiano tiene que viajar por un tiempo a través de un mundo en el que abunda el mal. El peligro está en todas partes. Es como el desierto para Israel en su camino a Canaán. A menudo la tierra es árida y estéril, y los pozos de agua son escasos; los enemigos se ciernen cerca, y el camino es difícil de encontrar, de modo que el cristiano necesita ayuda en el camino. Esto es lo que deseo dar en las siguientes páginas. Han sido escritas en varias ocasiones durante los últimos años, pero todas han tenido el mismo objetivo: guiar, fortalecer y consolar a los creyentes en su peregrinaje hacia Sión. Hablan de la escalera de la misericordia que nuestro Padre ha establecido, como el único camino de acceso a Él. Hablan de esa palabra de verdad, y de los propósitos de gracia allí revelados, que son tan seguros y firmes como la Roca que permanece inamovible a través de mil tormentas. Hablan de esa Fuente de sangre expiatoria a la que los peregrinos deben recurrir para su limpieza diaria. Hablan de esa Puerta a la cámara de la presencia de Jehová, que está abierta para todos los que quieran entrar en ella. Necesitamos siempre el espíritu de oración, el ojo que mira hacia arriba en busca de gracia y ayuda. La mano no debe estar ociosa, pues debemos ser trabajadores en la viña de nuestro Señor. Y, por muy débil que sea el cristiano en sí mismo, hay fuerza para el que no la tiene en todos los momentos de trabajo, tristeza o sufrimiento.
