Alexandre Dumas nace el 5 de diciembre de 1870, conocido en los países hispano hablantes como Alejandro Dumas, fue un novelista y dramaturgo francés. Su hijo,Alexandre Dumas, fue también un escritor conocido. Fue hijo de un general a las órdenes de Napoleón Bonaparte. Su abuelo fue el Marqués Antoine-Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie casado con Marie-Céssette Dumas, una esclava negra de las islas Indias del Oeste de Santo Domingo. Su madre fue Marie-Louise Labouret.A temprana edad quedó huérfano de padre, a merced de una exigua pensión que le correspondía a la viuda, no pudiendo darle a su hijo más educación que la escasa y precisa de sus rentas.En 1811 ingresó en la Escuela del Abad Gregorie y permaneció en ella hasta 1813. Puede decirse que de la escuela pasó a ser pasante de notario (1816) en Villers-Cotterets. Dedicaba entonces, más energía en la caza que al estudio de leyes. En 1819 conoce a Adolphe de Leuven con quien escribiría su primer trabajo literario.En 1822 realiza su primer viaje a París. Gracias a algunas cartas de recomendación para los antiguos compañeros de su padre y a su perfecta caligrafía consiguió una plaza de escribiente en la secretaría del Duque d'Orléans. Mientras tanto continuaba escribiendo y completando su formación de manera autodidacta. El caballero de la Maison Rouge o El caballero de la Mansión Roja (Le chevalier de Maison Rouge) es una novela del escritor francés Alejandro Dumas, escrita en 1845. La novela nos ubica en pleno reinado del terror, y relata las aventuras de un valiente joven llamado Maurice Lindey, quien se ve implicado involuntariamente en un plan para liberar de prisión a María Antonieta. Maurice es devoto de la causa republicana, no obstante, el amor por una misteriosa mujer lo involucra en esta intriga, cuyo orquestador es el Caballero de la Maison Rouge. La novela está basada en las comunicaciones entre el marqués de Rougeville y María Antonieta.
