Donald Kalsched explores the interior world of dream and fantasy images encountered in therapy with people who have suffered unbearable life experiences. He shows how, in an ironical twist of psychical life, the very images which are generated to defend the self can become malevolent and destructive, resulting in further trauma for the person. Why and how this happens are the questions the book sets out to answer. Drawing on detailed clinical material, the author gives special attention to the problems of addiction and psychosomatic disorder, as well as the broad topic of dissociation and its treatment. By focusing on the archaic and primitive defenses of the self he connects Jungian theory and practice with contemporary object relations theory and dissociation theory. At the same time, he shows how a Jungian understanding of the universal images of myth and folklore can illuminate treatment of the traumatised patient. Me han pedido que escriba un prólogo para este libro de título impronunciable, aunque, por fortuna, y de manera sorpresiva, el autor ha decidido traducirlo al castellano para deleite de los que, como yo, todavía no dominamos la jerigonza de la pérfida Albión. Como soy consciente de que, por lo regular, el lector nunca suele leer los prólogos, acepté resignado la propuesta, ya que el riesgo de ser vilipendiado es más bien escaso. Ya lo proclamó nuestro insigne y admirado premio nobel gallego; Don Camilo aconsejaba iniciar la lectura de los libros “pelándolos como un plátano”, es decir, eliminando todos los aditamentos ajenos al propio libro, todo aquello que no hubiera salido de la cabeza del autor, así que si pasáis directamente al primer capítulo, no se os podrá reprochar en absoluto, tenéis la venia de un nobel. Llegados a este, y aclaratorio punto, me veo en la tesitura de comentar la obra contenida en estos bites, o entre sus hojas, dependiendo de la edición. “GJWHF” es una obra engañosa , según su sinopsis original, relata las ansias de venganza de la protagonista, la bella Fátima, sobre sus cuatro “creadores”, pareciendo, de esta manera, una obra de odio y venganza, algo así como una particular versión femenina de “El Conde de Montecristo” o de un histriónico “Don Mendo”. Es cuando pasamos del primer capítulo, cuando nos damos cuenta que la obra es más, mucho más que una simple venganza. Durante ochenta capítulos, Ángel Aznar, nos va desgranando una serie de anécdotas, de historias, de aventuras e intrigas que harán la delicia de todo tipo de público, desde los jóvenes y adolescentes que, a modo de ventana al futuro, se asombrarán hasta qué cotas puede llegar la sorprendente vida que están iniciando, hasta a los que, como el que subscribe, que ya hace años peina canas, le harán recordar sus propias, e inconfesables, aventuras juveniles. Partiendo de una imprudencia que provoca un lamentable accidente, y aprovechando la justa venganza consecuente como hilo conductor de la narración, vemos, leemos, vivimos, las aventuras y desventuras de los protagonistas, jóvenes llenos de vida, de energía y al mismo tiempo tan diferentes entre ellos, logrando la pluma del autor trasladarnos a ese mundo donde la amistad, la acción y el compañerismo están constantemente presentes. Deliciosas anécdotas como la de Corvacho durante su viaje a Irlanda, o los tratos de Juanra con un capo gitano, son solo dos de las hilarantes aventuras con las que nos deleitará este grupo de jóvenes amigos. Ochenta capítulos, quinientas páginas. Visto así la obra impone. No te dejes engañar, avezado lector, por la aparente extensión ya que, si hacemos una simple media, cada capítulo se extenderá por poco más de seis páginas, longitud ideal para leer antes de dormir, en el trayecto del metro o en la sala de espera del dentista. Pero cuidado, los capítulos están tan magistralmente enlazados, que, al acabar un capítulo, no podrás evitar el curiosear el inicio del siguiente, momento en el que aprovechará el nuevo capítulo para atraparte, engancharte y evitar que lo dejes, y digo cuidado por el grave peligro de robarle horas al sueño, el riesgo de pasarte de estación de metro o la vergüenza de que el dentista tenga que reclamar tu presencia. Como ya este prólogo se va extendiendo más de lo que originalmente me había propuesto el autor, por lo que ya he cumplido, me decido a rematarlo, a modo de sello de lacre, con una frase del inefable D. Camilo que, en este caso, viene como anillo al dedo pues, sucintamente, define perfectamente la presente obra: «La más noble función de un escritor es dar testimonio, como acta notarial y como fiel cronista, del tiempo que le ha tocado vivir».
