El presente material exhibe el escaneo integral de cinco periódicos correspondientes al año 1989, momento en el cual el régimen no democrático liderado por Alfredo Stroessner llegó a su fin. La elección de los periódicos se realizó considerando cinco momentos distintos. El primer escaneo es la edición del 2 de febrero de 1989 de "Patria", publicada el día anterior al golpe de Estado. En dicho texto, el perspicaz lector podrá observar la "normalidad stronista" descrita desde la perspectiva del stronismo. Se revela una sociedad, política y economía cimentadas en lealtades, en un supuesto progreso y en un Paraguay tranquilo, sin problemas que el líder no pueda resolver. El segundo periódico digitalizado corresponde a "El Diario", del 3 de febrero de 1989. Esta edición, publicada por la mañana, relata de manera cauta los eventos de la madrugada. Aún no se mencionaba explícitamente la renuncia o el golpe de Estado en sí; más bien, se hablaba de un "levantamiento en la Caballería", donde el líder se encontraba ileso. Lo interesante aquí radica en la forma de narración adoptada, temerosa y hasta cómplice con el régimen, características que también predominaron en algunos sectores de la sociedad paraguaya durante ese período de casi 35 años. Última Hora, del 3 de febrero de 1989, constituye el tercer diario sometido a escaneo. Esta edición, publicada en la tarde, ya comunica un golpe militar, la renuncia del líder y diversos testimonios, entre los cuales se incluyen los de Augusto Roa Bastos y Rubén Bareiro Saguier, quienes celebraban los acontecimientos. El cuarto documento corresponde al primer número de “el Cambio”, periódico del PLRA, lanzado el 7 de abril de 1989. Consolidado el golpe, dos meses después del suceso, la oposición al oficialismo alza su voz, reflexiona sobre lo sucedido y expone sus demandas hacia el futuro. Gustavo Laterza, Carlos María Lezcano, José Luis Simón, Domingo Laino, Ramiro Domínguez, junto con otros intelectuales y políticos de la época, ofrecen interesantes reflexiones desde la oposición política. Finalmente, el 30 de diciembre de 1989, en el Anuario del Diario Hoy, se conmemora el cierre del año, destacando los principales sucesos.
