Spanish Abstract: La tolerancia a cierta volatilidad en la tasa de inflación lleva a que aquellos países que tienen metas de inflación diseñen su política monetaria de modo que refleje flexibilidad en cuatro dimensiones: el índice de precios para el cual se define la meta, el ancho del rango meta, el punto medio del horizonte de política monetaria (HPM) y el rango temporal del HPM. Este trabajo evalúa el HPM de Chile --recientemente redefinido por el BCCh-- a la luz de la experiencia chilena y en comparación con otros países con metas de inflación. Se revisan consideraciones analíticas y prácticas para la formulación del marco de metas de inflación. Luego se presenta información descriptiva sobre la inflación, su volatilidad y su desviación respecto de la meta para la muestra histórica del universo de países con metas de inflación, a fin de hacer inferencias sobre la tolerancia efectiva que han mostrado los países hacia desviaciones y volatilidades inflacionarias. Se describe el diseño actual de política monetaria en las cuatro dimensiones de flexibilidad mencionadas, en los países con metas de inflación. Finalmente, se examinan las proyecciones de inflación publicadas por el BCCh, que permiten evaluar la coherencia entre el HPM anunciado y el horizonte de política efectivo del Banco.
