El ser humano es —que sepamos hasta ahora— el único animal que tiene información, muy subjetiva, por cierto, de su propia información. Es más, es el único animal trascendente, en el sentido de que sabe que tiene que morir. Y algo más, sabe o puede —con las limitaciones genético-ambientales— discernir, y, por lo tanto, decidir entre esto o aquello, a la hora de actuar. Y, por consiguiente, alegrarse o lamentarse. En suma, es el único animal que tiene conciencia («sentido subjetivo de percepción y conocimiento de uno mismo», Fischbach). Todos los demás seres vivos, incluidos nuestros «parientes» los primates, deciden y actúan instintivamente, compulsivamente. Su obrar es impuesto por la información de su especie, por su instinto; obran con el cerebro, pero éste aún no tiene configurado «eso» que llamamos «mente». Por ello no tienen satisfacciones o disgustos a niveles mentales; no son felices ni infelices. Ni ambiciosos ni envidiosos. No creo que haya ningún perro que se abstenga de ladrar porque crea que lo hace mal. En fin, no conocen los «pecados». El único mono infeliz es el hombre.

Al recibir el ángel el permiso de descender a la tierra y cumplir su misión de amor, es preparada por Moisés (su guía y mentor), a través de sus enseñanzas, aprende como viven los terrestres, sus vicios, amores y secretos... y cuando baja arregla la vida de éstas personas, dejándoles, a su retorno al Cielo, el camino que necesitan seguir para encontrar la felicidad.

Eusebio Chacón, born in Pe-asco, New Mexico, is arguably one of the most significant and most overlooked figures in New Mexico's cultural heritage. He earned a law degree from Notre Dame and returned to practice law in Trinidad, Colorado. He served as a district attorney for Las Animas County, Colorado, and as a translator for the U.S. Court of Private Land Claims. In 1898, he began to write and edit for El Progreso, in which many of his articles exposed the unjust treatment of Hispanics in Colorado and New Mexico. He was also New Mexico's first novelist, and took pride in his pioneering efforts to establish a Nuevomexicano literary tradition. This collection of Chacón's writings brings together all published and written materials found, displaying his versatility with samples of his work as an accomplished orator, translator, essayist, historian, novelist, and poet.
