Este volumen nace del IX Coloquio de la SIERS (Sociedad Internacional para el Estudio de las Relaciones de Sucesos) que con el tema general de Metamorfosis y memoria del evento. El acontecimiento en las relaciones de sucesos europeas de los siglos XVI y XVII se celebró en la Universidad de Rennes 2 del 19 al 21 de septiembre de 2019. La SIERS como asociación de investigadores especializada en el estudio, en la Edad moderna, de relaciones, pliegos sueltos, avisos o gacetas de ámbito o interés hispánico, en prosa y verso, tiene como finalidad el desbroce del acontecimiento considerado como excepcional y relevante, a ojos de lo que no se llamaba aún la opinión pública y no era todavía el pueblo, pero simple y llanamente, dado el poco coste del impreso, buena parte de la población que podía leer y escribir y se interesaba por lo español en general. El evento “relacionado” ofrece varias facetas ; la que hemos querido poner de realce en nuestro Coloquio ha sido la de su mutabilidad a través de los textos conservados y de su memoria siempre aleatoria y tergiversada por el tiempo (siglos XVI a XVIII), el espacio (la Monarquía Hispánica, Europa, América, Asia), los autores (anónimos o escritores confirmados), los lectores (de habla hispana o no), los soportes (manuscrito, impreso), el contexto (público o privado), las formas (poesía y prosa), los fines ansiados (propaganda o mera información). Bajo estos diferentes prismas, de Verdadera, Verídica o Verísima, como reza el título de muchas de estas producciones, la relación pierde su relativa objetividad con respecto a la historia oficial, se vuelve cada vez más subjetiva, incierta, aunque la relación “histórica” pueda ser exacta con memorias inciertas, como dijo atinadamente el sabio canciller Francis Bacon.

Dieser Band beleuchtet die bislang wenig beachteten Zusammenhänge zwischen historischen Magie-Manifestationen und ihren wichtigsten Darbietungsformen des Theaters in der Zeit von 1600 bis 1685. Auf Grundlage der frühneuzeitlichen Magie-Trias von magia daemoniaca, magia naturalis und magia artificialis und unter Anwendung anthropologischer und theaterästhetischer Ansätze vergleicht die Analyse den Umgang mit Magie in der spanischen und der französischen Theaterkultur und Lebenswelt. La vida de santos, con aquella fascinante mezcla de fantasía literaria y mensaje devoto, apelaron durante siglos a unas emociones cinceladas a fuerza de religiosidad.
