Los procesos hidrológicos que ocurren en zonas de clima mediterráneo despliegan gran parte de su actividad en la capa superior del suelo, la más sensible a los factores y modificaciones externas. Los cambios climáticos predichos para los próximos años en regiones mediterráneas afectarán a la distribución espacio-temporal de la lluvia y a las variaciones térmicas del aire. Estos cambios podrían aumentar la intensidad y duración de los periodos de déficit hídrico del suelo y de las sequías, así como realzar la demanda evaporativa y permitir una mayor capacidad de interceptación de las cubiertas vegetales durante periodos más prolongados. Estas circunstancias afectarán a la cantidad de agua que alcanza el suelo y, consecuentemente, a los procesos ecohidrológicos. El estudio presentado en este libro pone de manifiesto la situación actual de dichos procesos en los ecosistemas limitados por la disponibilidad hídrica y pretende ser un recurso que fomente el conocimiento y facilite la gestión de estos espacios, considerando el posible impacto de las variaciones climáticas sobre el agua y la dinámica vegetal.
