Andrés Eloy Blanco Meaño nació en Cumaná, Venezuela, el 6 de agosto de 1896, murió enla Ciudad de México, el 21 de Mayo de 1955, fue un abogado, escritor, humorista, poeta y político venezolano.Desde muy joven, intelectualmente obtuvo merecidos reconocimientos. Cuando contaba con sólo 19 años, recibe el Primer Premio en los Juegos Florales de Venezuela con su poema Canto a la espiga y al arado. En 1922, obtiene el Primer Premio en los Juegos Florales de Santander, certamen hispanoamericano, patrocinado por la Academia de la Lengua Española, con el poema Canto a España.Su obra poética logra ser perdurable, por la sencillez de su palabra. Sabe llegar al pueblo, a los intelectuales, emociona a jóvenes, niños y ancianos, satisface a los críticos más rigurosos, su poesía se ciñe al rigor del verso castellano y se confunde con el palabreo diáfano y sencillo de la gente del pueblo.Píntame angelitos negros es un famoso poema llevado a canción, que podría considerarse como un himno en contra de la discriminación racial.Muchos críticos han ubicado a Andrés Eloy Blanco en la Generación del 18, y más precisamente dentro de un modernismo tardío, casi decadente. Sin embargo, el poeta, sin escapar a las influencias del modernismo, posee un tono muy personal, que tuvo su fuente en el ser esencial del pueblo.
