Libro de ensayo de Ángel Ganivet escrito poco antes de su suicidio en el que reflexiona sobre el futuro de España en relación con el resto de Europa, a la pujanza de las costumbres del resto de Europa y los ideales que empezaban a vislumbrarse en el horizonte del inminente siglo XX. Ángel Ganivet García fue un escritor nacido en Granada en 1865 y fallecido en Riga (Letonia) en 1898. Aparte de su carrera diplomático, sus escritos se consideran precursores del estilo de la Generación del 98. Trabajó tanto el género narrativo como el ensayo, con su famosa obra Idearium Español, con una visión de España que roza la espiritualidad sin estar exenta de ironía, pues dicha espiritualidad tiene como centro a la figura del ser humano. Hoy en día es recordado como uno de los grandes pensadores españoles de su época.
