La cuestión del dominio que ejerce el ser humano sobre lo real revela el elemento constitutivo del ser humano como realidad que, por ser dueño de su existencia. Por otro lado, el suum y la posibilidad de respetarlo en derecho y en cualquier forma contractual hacen de la delimitación de las formas de ejercer o realizar ese dominio (como propiedad, uso, usufructo o posesión) una cuestión clave del derecho civil y eclesiástico y del pensamiento económico. Se ha visto el interés de contribuir con algunos textos que complementen lo contenido en las Relecciones de Francisco de Vitoria, el De iustitia et iure, de Domingo de Soto y los tratados posteriores, por eso en este libro se ofrecen las lecturas sobre el dominio dictadas en la cátedra de prima por Bartolomé de Medina, como sustituto de Mancio, en unas lecciones del curso de 1566-1567, comentando la Summa Theologiae de Tomás de Aquino.

Over the past few decades, a growing number of studies have highlighted the importance of the ‘School of Salamanca’ for the emergence of colonial normative regimes and the formation of a language of normativity on a global scale. According to this influential account, American and Asian actors usually appear as passive recipients of normative knowledge produced in Europe. This book proposes a different perspective and shows, through a knowledge historical approach and several case studies, that the School of Salamanca has to be considered both an epistemic community and a community of practice that cannot be fixed to any individual place. Instead, the School of Salamanca encompassed a variety of different sites and actors throughout the world and thus represents a case of global knowledge production.
