This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides guidelines to document the functional and physical interface requirements for the electrical systems (including an Electronic Engine Control System (EECS) and its components) between a given propulsion system and the aircraft on which the system is installed. The Interface Control Document (ICD) is considered to be a subset of the Engine Installation Manual, with interface considerations between the Airframer and Engine manufacturer. Although it can be developed concurrently with the Airframer and Engine manufacturer, its format and content result from an agreement between the Engine and Aircraft Type Certificate Holders, using the Certification Guidelines.Within this document, the following definitions are adapted from the AC33.28-1 and CS-Definitions: "Engine Control System" means any system or device which is part of the Engine Type design, which controls, limits, or monitors Engine operation and is necessary for continued airworthiness of the Engine. "Electronic Engine Control System" (EECS) means an Engine Control System in which the primary functions are provided using electronics. It includes all the components (i.e., electrical, electronic, hydro-mechanical and pneumatic) which are necessary for the control of the Engine and may incorporate other control functions where desired. The term "EEC" is used to refer to the Electronic Engine Control unit. The term "aircraft" is used with the global meaning of aircraft or rotorcraft. The scope includes commercial and general aviation aircraft powered by piston, turbofan, turboprop, and turboshaft engines equipped with electronic engine controls. It can also be applicable to an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) equipped with an electronic control. AIR6181 is based on the previously issued ARP4874 to inform engine and aircraft manufacturers on the structure and content of an Interface Control Document for an Electronic Engine Control System. This revision reflects the input received as part of the Five-Year Review process.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) enumerates areas of concern which need to be addressed when the aircraft propulsion control system functions are distributed. Distributed items may include electronic control sensors, electrical or hydraulic power sources, computer hardware and software, etc. This report identifies many factors which should be considered to determine the best system architecture for any given application. The AIR4366 subject material has been superseded by another standard work produced by the RTCA SC200 which has now published D0-297. An assessment of the content of AIR4366 against DO 297 was made and summarized in a matrix, see attachment 08.air4366 from the September 06 meeting. Quoting from the September 06 minutes, "The matrix shows what each of the documents is trying to achieve and then provides a comparison between them. ..... in the vast majority of areas, the SC200 document covers all points contained with the AIR in a more detailed and robust manner." In would be a pointless exercise to update the AIR4366 since a much more comprehensive document already exists, hence it is suggested that AIR4366 be cancelled.

Helicopter Engine Airframe Interface Document And Checklist written by S-12 Powered Lift Propulsion Committee and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022 with categories.

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) provides a guide for the preparation of a helicopter engine/airframe interface document and checklist. This document and checklist should identify the information needed by the engine manufacturer and the aircraft manufacturer to integrate the engine design with the aircraft design and either provide this information or give reference to where this information is located. The intent is to assure that the engine manufacturer and the airframe manufacturer identify and make provision for this information so it can be easily accessible to either manufacturer as needed in the development stages of an engine-airframe integration project.A related document, SAE Aerospace Information Report AIR6181, provides guidance on creating an interface control document (ICD) which addresses a subset of the aircraft-engine interface information concerning the physical and functional interfaces of the electronic engine control system (EECS) with the aircraft systems. This would include signal interfaces, digital data busses and integrated functionality with the aircraft electronic systems and avionics displays. The engine/airframe interface document should reference this EECS ICD rather than duplicate its information. Similarly, as information is documented in the engine installation manual or engine installation drawings, the engine/airframe interface document should make references to the engine installation manual or engine installation drawings, rather than duplicate the information. Typically, the engine/airframe interface document will be the initial document in the project to capture the interface information which can then transition to referenced information as the engine installation manual, EECS ICD, and engine installation drawings are developed. During the SAE Five-Year Review, it was identified that although the scope of ARP1507A stated that it provided "complete relevant information" on engine-airframe interfaces, it primarily covered mechanical interfaces and not electronic interfaces. The integration of the engine electronic systems with aircraft electronic systems has greatly expanded in the industry since last update of this document in 1997. Another SAE E-36 document, AIR6181, covers most of the needed information on electronic engine-aircraft interface. Rather than redundantly add this information to ARP1507, a reference to AIR6181 has been added in ARP1507 to point to the electronic interface information that it covers. Secondarily, there are additional mechanical interface considerations that have been added to ARP1507 document text and checklist.

This document is intended for use by manufacturers of aircraft, engines and Electronic Engine Controls [EECs] as a component change process and evaluation guideline. Its purpose is to provide an effective means of managing the modification of electronic hardware. The process defined in this document is based upon: an understanding of the electronic component market evolution, e.g., obsolescence; lessons learned from the effects caused by the introduction of electrical component changes in a service fleet environment; industry best practice; and an understanding of the applicable regulations. The reason for this guidance report on change management is to recommend procedures and practices that clarify the level of risk associated with changes to an engine control system. There are recommendations regarding the engineering processes that should accompany the various levels of change in order to keep the risk of unforeseen effects as low as is reasonably possible. Guidance is also provided on the communication amongst relevant parties.

Guidelines For The Integration Of Electronic Engine Control Systems With Transport Category Aircraft Systems written by E-36 Electronic Engine Controls Committee and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with categories.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides methodologies and approaches that have been used to install and integrate full-authority-digital-engine-control (FADEC) systems on transport category aircraft. Although the information provided is based on turbofan engines installed on large commercial transports, many of the issues raised are equally applicable to corporate, general aviation, regional and commuter aircraft, and to military installations, particularly when commercial aircraft are employed by military users. The word "engine" is used to designate the aircraft propulsion system. The engine station designations used in this report are shown in Figure 1.Most of the material concerns an Electronic Engine Control (EEC) with its associated software, and its functional integration with the aircraft. However, the report also addresses the physical environment associated with the EEC and its associated wiring and sensors.Since most of today's transport category engines use dual-channel full-authority digital engine control (FADEC) systems, this is the configuration which is primarily addressed. A typical FADEC system configuration is shown in Figure 2. Special considerations that pertain to single-channel FADEC systems or limited authority "supervisory" control systems are also addressed.
