And With The Teian Lyre Imitate Anacreon written by Veronika Lütkenhaus and has been published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-14 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book explores, for the first time, the influence of Anacreon and the Anacreontic tradition on Horace's Odes and Epodes. It focuses first on the original fragments of Anacreon and their reception in Horace, paying attention to the central themes of wine, love, and satire. In a second part, the possibility of conscious Horatian reception of the earliest Carmina Anacreontea (and the broader Anacreontic tradition) as distinct from the original is discussed and shown to be highly probable. This imitation of imitation can be labelled, in Gérard Genette's words, as "literature in the third degree". As a significant predecessor of Horace, Anacreon can be described as no less than the central pivot between Archilochus and Hipponax, on the one hand, and Alcaeus and Sappho, on the other. He represents the tie between Horace's iambic and lyric personae and is thus a much more encompassing predecessor than any one of the other four above-mentioned counterparts.

Repetition is constitutive of human life. Both the species and the individual develop through repetition. Unlike simple recall, repetition is permeated by the past and the present and is oriented toward the future. Repetition of central actions and events plays an important role in the lives of individuals and the life of society. It helps to create meaning and memory. Because repetition is a central aspect of human life, it plays a role in all social and cultural spheres. It is important for several branches of the humanities and social studies. This book presents studies of an array of repetitive phenomena and to show that repetition analysis is opening up a new field of study within single disciplines and interdisciplinary research. Recommended for scholars of literature, music, culture, and communication.

Lyric Texts Consciousness written by Paul Miller and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-19 with History categories.

First published in 1994. Lyric Texts and Lyric Consciousness presents a model for studying the history of lyric as a genre. Professor Miller drawls a distinction between the work of the Greek lyrists and the more condensed, personal poetry that we associate with lyric. He then confronts the theoretical issues and presents sophisticated, Bakhtinian reading of the development of lyric form from its origins in archaic Greece to the more individualist style of Augustan Rome. This book will appeal to classicists and since English translation of passes from ancient authors are provided, to those who specialise in comparative literature.
