An Elementary Treatise On The Dynamics Of A Particle And Of Rigid Bodies written by S. L. Loney and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-23 with Literary Collections categories.

Originally published in 1926, this informative and detailed textbook is primarily aimed at university students studying applied mathematics for a science or engineering degree and contains a large number of useful examples to work though. Basic knowledge of elementary dynamics is assumed throughout, as is a working knowledge of differential and integral calculus. Answers can be found at the back of the book, as well as a summary of the methods of solution of the equations contained. Examples are mostly collected from a variety of past university and college examination papers, and notably rigid dynamics has been confined to two-dimensional motion and omissions have been made to all reference of moving axes. Covering the topic in its entirety, this book gives a panoramic overview of the subject and will be of considerable value to anyone with a keen interest in mathematics and engineering, as well as the history of education.

Elementary Plane Rigid Dynamics focuses on the basic ideas of particle dynamics, including center of gravity, inertia, friction, and oscillations. The publication first offers information on the motion of a rigid body around a fixed axis. Discussions focus on moment of inertia for a sphere for an axis through its center of gravity; moment of inertia of a cylinder for an axis through its center of gravity and normal to its axis of figure; and moment of inertia of a rectangular parallelepiped for an axis normal to one of its faces and through its center of gravity. The text then elaborates on the general plane motion of a rigid body and some special problems involving friction. Topics include belt and rope friction, power transmitted by a flat disk coupling, friction in a flat step bearing, meaning of the general torque equation for plane motion, superelevation of the outer rail on a railway curve, kinetic energy, and equilibrium. The book takes a look at undamped simple harmonic motion and damped and forced oscillations, including vibrations with damping, compound pendulum, and amplitude of forced oscillations in the steady state. The publication is a valuable source of data for students interested in plane rigid dynamics.

Excerpt from Elementary Dynamics of Particles and Solids The following treatise is based on courses of lectures delivered in Firth College, Sheffield. It is intended as an introduction to the principles of dynamics for the use of students with no knowledge of mathematics beyond the elements of algebra and pure geometry. It will thus be found useful, not only in colleges and schools, but also to that large class of mechanical engineers to whom a knowledge of dynamics is valuable, but whose acquaintance with mathematics is slight. The wants of this latter class have been kept in view throughout, although developments properly to be found in technical treatises are not introduced. The chapters on the motion of rigid bodies will, it is hoped, be especially useful to them. This part will also be of value to ordinary students, who will thus be introduced to the simple principles of rigid dynamics freed from the intricacies of the differential and integral calculus, which usually accompany them. For engineers, the knowledge of the properties of moments of inertia and their values for simple bodies are as important as that of their centres of gravity, and it is hoped that the methods of Chapter XIX will be found as simple as those employed in finding centres of gravity. Excerpt from Elementary Dynamics of the Particle and Rigid Body A number of the examples, particularly those at the ends of the chapters, are taken from Melbourne University papers. Most of the others have been specially constructed by myself, but a few, which I am unable now to specify, may have come from other sources. I cap only, hope that not many errors will be found In hamsters given. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
