Elementary Theory Of L Functions And Eisenstein Series written by Haruzo Hida and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-02-11 with Mathematics categories.
The theory of p-adic and classic modular forms, and the study of arithmetic and p-adic L-functions has proved to be a fruitful area of mathematics over the last decade. Professor Hida has given courses on these topics in the USA, Japan, and in France, and in this book provides the reader with an elementary but detailed insight into the theory of L-functions. The presentation is self contained and concise, and the subject is approached using only basic tools from complex analysis and cohomology theory. Graduate students wishing to know more about L-functions will find that this book offers a unique introduction to this fascinating branch of mathematics.

This book is the first to provide a comprehensive and elementary account of the new Iwasawa theory innovated via the deformation theory of modular forms and Galois representations. The deformation theory of modular forms is developed by generalizing the cohomological approach discovered in the author's 2019 AMS Leroy P Steele Prize-winning article without using much algebraic geometry.Starting with a description of Iwasawa's classical results on his proof of the main conjecture under the Kummer-Vandiver conjecture (which proves cyclicity of his Iwasawa module more than just proving his main conjecture), we describe a generalization of the method proving cyclicity to the adjoint Selmer group of every ordinary deformation of a two-dimensional Artin Galois representation. The fundamentals in the first five chapters are as follows:Many open problems are presented to stimulate young researchers pursuing their field of study.

Elementary Number Theory written by Charles Vanden Eynden and has been published by Waveland Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-02-15 with categories.
This practical and versatile text evolved from the author’s years of teaching experience and the input of his students. Vanden Eynden strives to alleviate the anxiety that many students experience when approaching any proof-oriented area of mathematics, including number theory. His informal yet straightforward writing style explains the ideas behind the process of proof construction, showing that mathematicians develop theorems and proofs from trial and error and evolutionary improvement, not spontaneous insight. Furthermore, the book includes more computational problems than most other number theory texts to build students’ familiarity and confidence with the theory behind the material. The author has devised the content, organization, and writing style so that information is accessible, students can gain self-confidence with respect to mathematics, and the book can be used in a wide range of courses—from those that emphasize history and type A problems to those that are proof oriented.

This is a book about prime numbers, congruences, secret messages, and elliptic curves that you can read cover to cover. It grew out of undergr- uate courses that the author taught at Harvard, UC San Diego, and the University of Washington. The systematic study of number theory was initiated around 300B. C. when Euclid proved that there are in?nitely many prime numbers, and also cleverly deduced the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, which asserts that every positive integer factors uniquely as a product of primes. Over a thousand years later (around 972A. D. ) Arab mathematicians formulated the congruent number problem that asks for a way to decide whether or not a given positive integer n is the area of a right triangle, all three of whose sides are rational numbers. Then another thousand years later (in 1976), Di?e and Hellman introduced the ?rst ever public-key cryptosystem, which enabled two people to communicate secretely over a public communications channel with no predeterminedsecret; this invention and the ones that followed it revolutionized the world of digital communication. In the 1980s and 1990s, elliptic curves revolutionized number theory, providing striking new insights into the congruent number problem, primality testing, publ- key cryptography, attacks on public-key systems, and playing a central role in Andrew Wiles’ resolution of Fermat’s Last Theorem.

Our intention in writing this book is to give an elementary introduction to number theory which does not demand a great deal of mathematical back ground or maturity from the reader, and which can be read and understood with no extra assistance. Our first three chapters are based almost entirely on A-level mathematics, while the next five require little else beyond some el ementary group theory. It is only in the last three chapters, where we treat more advanced topics, including recent developments, that we require greater mathematical background; here we use some basic ideas which students would expect to meet in the first year or so of a typical undergraduate course in math ematics. Throughout the book, we have attempted to explain our arguments as fully and as clearly as possible, with plenty of worked examples and with outline solutions for all the exercises. There are several good reasons for choosing number theory as a subject. It has a long and interesting history, ranging from the earliest recorded times to the present day (see Chapter 11, for instance, on Fermat's Last Theorem), and its problems have attracted many of the greatest mathematicians; consequently the study of number theory is an excellent introduction to the development and achievements of mathematics (and, indeed, some of its failures). In particular, the explicit nature of many of its problems, concerning basic properties of inte gers, makes number theory a particularly suitable subject in which to present modern mathematics in elementary terms.
