Elle a vingt-six ans. Elle meurt véritablement consumée d'amour pour le Christ, après des mois de souffrance physiques et morales. Née à Bourges en 1880, Premier Prix de piano à treize ans, cette jeune artiste est aussi une amie incomparable pour ses proches. Elle entre au carmel de Dijon le 2 août 1901 et s'y épanouit dans le silence de la contemplation, rayonnnat du bonheur d'un total oubli de soi. Après la traversée d'une nuit spirituelle, elle fait sa profession religieuse en 1903, puis rédige le 21 novembre 1904 sa prière "Ô mon Dieu, Trinité que j'adore", célèbre depuis dans tout le monde chrétien. Jean-Paul II la béatifie le 25 novembre 1984. "La structure de son univers spirituel, le contenu et le style de sa pensée théologique sont d'une densité et d'une consistance sans faille" (Hans Urs von Balthasar). La palette de sa doctrine spirituelle est large, d'une rare richesse et d'une grande actualité. Elle est un "guide sûr" (Jean-Paul II) pour apprendre à vivre en intime communauté avec Dieu au cœur de la vie quotidienne moderne. Elle est l'exemple d'un amour qui apporte un bonheur profond et durable. Dans le dialogue interreligieux contemporain, elle est un témoin extraordinaire de la Trinité. This second of three volumes of her Complete Works contains all of Elizabeth's surviving letters from Carmel, along with 8 photos. In simple and tender language, writing to friends and family, Elizabeth returns again and again to the great themes of her spirituality: the indwelling Trinity, silence and solitude, living by love, becoming a "praise of glory" (laudem gloriae) by sharing in the dying and rising of Jesus Christ. Here too we find many of her best-known sayings, e.g., "I have found my heaven on earth, for heaven is God, and God is in my soul." In his introductions and careful notes, Father Conrad De Meester, O.C.D., explains the background of each of Elizabeth's letters from Carmel, most of which have never before appeared in English.
