Aids In The World Ii written by Global AIDS Policy Coalition and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with AIDS (Disease) categories.

AIDS in the World, Vol. 1, published in 1992, was the first full analysis of mankind's global confrontation with this disease. The AIDS scene, however, has been changing so rapidly that the need for a second volume was felt much earlier than expected. In AIDS in the World II, the authors extend the international comparisons from 38 countries to the entire world, and show that the AIDS pandemic has become increasingly fragmented within the world population. They present data that takes the discussion beyond the current understanding of the vulnerability of nations and communities to the worldwide spread of HIV, engaging in a detailed exploration of the social strategies that have enabled individuals to avoid infection. Mann and Tarantola chart a course into the future based on an incisive investigation of the global pandemic and response, the crucial lessons learned from the first decade, and their expert understanding of the scientific and social dimensions of the HIV challenge. The authors explain how the variety of reactions to the pandemic has contributed to a more advanced awareness of our vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, and offer a blueprint for an expanded global prevention effort. Intended to serve the information needs of all professionals involved in AIDS research and care, this volume's accessibility and clarity of writing make it highly suitable for the general reader as well.

Freud And The Desire Of The Psychoanalyst written by Serge Cottet and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-08 with Psychology categories.

Freud's invention of psychoanalysis was based on his own desire to know something about the unconscious, but what have been the effects of this original desire on psychoanalysis ever since? How has Freud's desire created symptoms in the history of psychoanalysis? Has it helped or hindered its transmission? Exploring these questions brings Serge Cottet to Lacan's concept of the psychoanalyst's desire: less a particular desire like Freud's and more a function, this is what allows analysts to operate in their practice. It emerges during analysis and is crucial in enabling the analysand to begin working with the unconscious of others when they take on the position of analyst themselves. What is this function and how can it be traced in Freud's work? Cottet's book, first published in 1982 and revised in 1996, is a classic of Lacanian psychoanalysis. It is not only a scholarly study of Freud and Lacan, but a thought-provoking introduction to the key issues of Lacanian psychoanalysis.

Between God And Beast written by Avraham Balaban and has been published by Penn State Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-30 with Literary Criticism categories.

In Between God and Beast, Avraham Balaban argues that Oz's fiction has, from the outset, followed Jung's psychological theory. The major psychic processes that are depicted throughout Oz's prose are typically Jungian. For example, the treasure hunt, which is the deep structure of many of Oz's stories and novels, reflects the search for the "self" in which all the vying forces of one's psyche coexist peacefully. Oz uses many of the symbols of the treasure as well as of the self as they are presented by Jung. Many of the symbols examined in this study have never before been discussed in articles about Oz's writings. Balaban also devotes a considerable portion of his study to the religious dimension of Oz's work as well as the impact of his personal life on his writings. Balaban reveals that from the beginning Oz's work has moved in two directions: it demonstrates an unceasing effort to delve ever deeper into the dark side of consciousness while heightening the contrast between the opposing elements vying within his protagonists; and it consistently attempts to bring those oppositions to peaceful coexistence and even to a fruitful mutual relationship.

C. G. Jung has been and continues to be a pervasive yet often unacknowledged presence in twentieth-century art and intellectual life. This timely volume is the first comprehensive attempt to assess this presence and to demonstrate Jung's far-reaching cultural impact. The distinguished contributors represent a number of views, from traditional Jungian to the most contemporary post-Jungian stances, including feminist, non-Jungian, and anti-Jungian positions. Jung, as seen in this volume, addresses a wide range of contemporary issues related to creativity, gender, religion, popular culture, and hermeneutics. The essays reveal dimensions of his work that extend far beyond psychoanalytical theory and that show his hermeneutics to be a much more subtle and sophisticated methodology than previously allowed by his critics. This methodology appears, in fact, to have anticipated significant aspects of contemporary critical principles and practice. The contributors to the volume were among the participants in a major international conference sponsored by Hofstra University and the C. G. Jung Foundation of New York, held in 1986 at Hofstra University. They include Thomas Belmonte, Robert Bly, Joseph Campbell, Edward S. Casey, Stanley Diamond, Jean Erdman, Leslie Fiedler, James Hillman, Paul Kugler, Ibram Lassaw, Neil Levine, David L. Miller, Lucio Pozzi, Gilles Quispel, Robert Richenburg, Carol Schreier Rupprecht, Andrew Samuels, Harold Schechter, and June Singer. Originally published in 1990. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
