In the Mokṣopāya (also known as the Yogavāsiṣṭha), an eleventh-century Sanskrit poetic text, the great Vedic philosopher Vasiṣṭha counsels his young protégé Lord Rāma about the ways of the world through sixty-four stories designed to bring Rāma from ignorance to wisdom. Much beloved, this work reflects the philosophy of Kashmir Śaivism. Precisely because all worldly pursuits are dreamlike and fiction-like, the human soul must first come to an experience of non-dualistic, mind-only metaphysics, and after attaining this wisdom, promote moral activism. Engaged Emancipation is a wide-ranging consideration of this work and the philosophical and spiritual questions it addresses by philosophers, Sanskritists, and scholars of religion, literature, and science. Contributors allow readers to walk with Rāma as his melancholy and angst transform into connectivity, peace, and spiritual equipoise.

How a band of antislavery leaders recovered the radical philosophical inspirations of the first American Revolution to defeat the slaveholders’ oligarchy in the Civil War. This is a story about a dangerous idea—one which ignited revolutions in America, France, and Haiti; burst across Europe in the revolutions of 1848; and returned to inflame a new generation of intellectuals to lead the abolition movement—the idea that all men are created equal. In their struggle against the slaveholding oligarchy of their time, America’s antislavery leaders found their way back to the rationalist, secularist, and essentially atheist inspiration for the first American Revolution. Frederick Douglass’s unusual interest in radical German philosophers and Abraham Lincoln’s buried allusions to the same thinkers are but a few of the clues that underlie this propulsive philosophical detective story. With fresh takes on forgotten thinkers like Theodore Parker, the excommunicated Unitarian minister who is the original source of some of Lincoln’s most famous lines, and a feisty band of German refugees, philosopher and historian Matthew Stewart tells a vivid and piercing story of the battle between America’s philosophical radicals and the conservative counterrevolution that swept the American republic in the first decades of its existence and persists in new forms up to the present day. In exposing the role of Christian nationalism and the collusion between northern economic elites and slaveholding oligarchs, An Emancipation of the Mind demands a significant revision in our understanding of the origins and meaning of the struggle over slavery in America—and offers a fresh perspective on struggles between democracy and elite power today.

This book is about all things consciousness, great and small. It starts by pointing to the key characteristic of consciousness, without realizing which it cannot be understood: like everything else about the mind, it is fundamentally a kind of computation. Among many other matters, this explains: how it is that we share some aspects of consciousness with bacteria; how it can arise in artificial machines and not just living ones; how the empty cocoon of the self that it spins ends up pretending to be the butterfly; and how consciousness dooms this virtual butterfly to the splendor and the suffering of being awake and aware. Unlike most other books on consciousness, this one includes a discussion of some possible ways whereby we, pinned like butterflies by our species’ history and socioeconomic circumstances, can awake to our collective predicament and join forces to do something about it. It should be of interest to all readers who care about the nature of our lived experience — and about our survival, which depends on developing critical consciousness of our dire situation and the social dynamics that shape it.

The Resurrection of the Truth is one of three Spirit Plays inspired by true events. In this play I have tried to portray the human experience as a struggle between the Human Emotions inherent in our mortal beings and the Divine Virtues, the essence of our immortal spirits. The spirits earthbound conflict between emotion and virtue is a real perception. Each of us wrestles with the choices presented to us by this human experience while we are on earth. However, until now there has never been confirmation that the Spirits and their dimension actually exist. My plays are true to the unseen structure of this existence where each spirit, as a human being, has the opportunity to choose the pathways created by the human mind or those known only to the spirit. The Emotions are real to us and so are the Virtues. They each have their respective roles to play in our lives. We have each encountered them as a part of our earthly experiences. When we leave this experience for the next, the virtuous aspects of our spirit existence live on. The emotions produced by the brain as a function of our brain chemistry, remain a part of this experience as an inextricable element of the human form. My hope is to offer a better understanding the relationship between who the mind or psyche tells us we are, as mortal flesh and blood, and who we truly are as earthbound spirits. It is worth noting that each of us continues to be a part of the spirit dimension even while we labor to remain within this earthly perception.

What is Sovereignty, is it Innate, is it political, or is it both? How can humanity claim their Innate Sovereignty extended to them by their Creator if they know not that it exists? How can America's Meek exercise their political Sovereignty bequeathed them by their Fore Fathers if they know not of their Constitutional rights which has been in existence since the Peace Treaty of Paris in 1783 (officially ending the Revolutionary War), but usurped in practice after the US Civil War? How can these facts be learned by closed minds; unwilling to get involved with the discovery of Innate or political Sovereignty? This body of work; this thesis asks these questions, not for the sake of asking, but for the sake of answering; the Answer of which is concise and pragmatic - pointing humanity to the only possible solution - the freeing of their minds; the Emancipation of Human Consciousness. The reclamation of this lost knowledge empowers Americans, as well as humanity across the world, to non-violently act; to peacefully get involved with their own liberation. How else can we all be free if we do not "claim, and exercise" our own Innate Sovereignty, or for Americans, their inherited political Sovereignty? This is America's true Destiny - as leaders of freedom - non-violently free themselves from all forms of tyranny, so by their example - the rest of the humanity can peacefully free themselves as well!

Emancipation S written by Ernesto Laclau and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-05 with Philosophy categories.

In Emancipation(s), Ernesto Laclau addresses a central question: how have the changes of the last decade, together with the transformation in contemporary thought, altered the classical notion of "emancipation" as formulated since the Enlightenment? Our visions of the future and our expectations of emancipation, have been deeply affected by the changes of recent history: the end of the Cold War, the explosion of new ethnic and national identities, the social fragmentation under late capitalism, and the collapse of universal certainties in philosophy and social and historical thought. Laclau here begins to explore precisely how our visions of emancipation have been recast under these new conditions. Laclau examines the internal contradictions of the notion of "emancipation" as it emerged from the mainstream of modernity, as well as the relation between universalism and particularism which is inherent in it. He explores the making of political identities and the status of central notions in political theory such as "representation" and "power," focusing particularly on the work of Derrida and Rorty. Emancipation(s) is a significant contribution to the reshaping of radical political thought.
