Cuando el propósito individual y social no coinciden en la educación, ¿qué salida nos queda? Emociones y lenguaje en educación y política reúne principalmente dos conferencias sobre educación y los valores que esta encarna, y sobre el papel vital del lenguaje en el tema. El lenguaje es más que un sistema de símbolos, pues se relaciona con las emociones, y estas son decisivas para la aceptación del otro en la convivencia. En este contexto, la concepción de la educación como un territorio donde —bajo el eufemismo de la libre competencia— se prepara a los estudiantes para competir con el otro, queda en tela de juicio ante la necesidad de un cambio del orden político y cultural, que tanta desigualdad ha generado. El nuevo orden, entonces, debiese ser uno donde lo fundamental es el mutuo respeto en la honestidad de un proyecto común de convivencia. En palabras del propio Maturana, si la educación de Chile se funda en la justificación engañosa de ventajas y privilegios, limitando su mirada responsable hacia la comunidad que los sustenta, esta no le sirve a Chile ni a los chilenos.

COVID wrought havoc on the world’s economic systems.
