What mysteries lie at the heart of fiction's power to enchant and engage the mind? Empty Revelations considers a number of philosophical problems that fiction raises, including the primary issue of how we can think and talk about things that do not exist. Peter Alward covers thought-provoking terrain, exploring fictional truth, the experience of being "caught up" in a story, and the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction. At the centre of Alward's argument is a figure known as the "narrative informant" who mediates the reader's encounter with fictional events through - sometimes unreliable - reporting. Developing a theory in which the author is a sculptor who constructs works of fiction out of words, Alward demonstrates that much of the confusion about fiction stems from a failure to properly distinguish between writing fiction and telling stories. Combining clarity, philosophical sophistication, ingenuity, and originality, Empty Revelations is a rewarding read for both scholars of philosophy and anyone interested in the complex ways that fiction works.

The Bible’s final book, Revelation, can seem intimidating or downright impossible to comprehend, but this guided tour by Bible scholar Tim LaHaye and renowned puzzle master Timothy E. Parker makes it easily understandable. Filled with complex imagery, vivid depictions of violence, and challenging spiritual references, Revelation is often set aside by readers in favor of more straightforward, easier-to-digest biblical material. Yet the capstone of the canon need not remain a mystery. Cleverly designed for maximum learning and retention, this book covers every verse of Revelation step by step and, for each grouping of verses, includes a short three-question pre-quiz; the passage of scripture being addressed; a precise explanation of what the scripture means; and, finally, the same three questions repeated with the answers provided. By following this method, you will be amazed at how well you retain the teachings. Absorb this book and discover afresh?or for the first time?the richness of Revelation and its God-breathed, life-changing power to deepen your walk of faith.

Revelations In A Brown Paper Bag written by Gary Coller and has been published by Stratton Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03 with categories.

If you desire revelation of truth, you must start with an empty cup. That is, you must rid yourself of all preconceived notions. Scripture says wisdom begins with the fear of God. An empty cup with the fear of God is the foundation of truth. Contemplate all you encounter from that prospective. If you struggle with your health and your faith, then it's time to empty your cup of all your preconceptions. As you learn to fill it with God's truth, you will find refreshment for both your soul and body. Dr. Coller begins in laying out a strong spiritual foundation for readers, then builds on this by addressing the ways that external and internal energy sources can affect our lives and examining the healing power of God as shown in scripture. By looking at both spiritual and physical causes for illness, Dr. Coller shows the important role of both faith and science. His medical background is obvious as he provides readers with health and nutrition guidelines, but his spiritual authority is also clear through inspired insight into scripture. Despite a prophetic word from God that he would write a book that would bless many people, Dr. Coller struggled with fruitless attempts until a patient arrived with the purpose of praying over him in tongues. She told him, "God told you to write a book and he wants it done!" Shortly after this encounter, he began waking up in the middle of the night with revelations that illuminated certain scriptures. He would write them down and throw them in a paper sack. Finally, he collected them into the book you hold in your hands: Revelations in a Brown Paper Bag.

Dancing Revelations written by Thomas F. DeFrantz and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-01-15 with Social Science categories.

In the early 1960s, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater was a small, multi-racial company of dancers that performed the works of its founding choreographer and other emerging artists. By the late 1960s, the company had become a well-known African American artistic group closely tied to the Civil Rights struggle. In Dancing Revelations, Thomas DeFrantz chronicles the troupe's journey from a small modern dance company to one of the premier institutions of African American culture. He not only charts this rise to national and international renown, but also contextualizes this progress within the civil rights, women's rights, and gay rights struggles of the late 20th century. DeFrantz examines the most celebrated Ailey dances, including Revelations, drawing on video recordings of Ailey's dances, published interviews, oral histories, and his own interviews with former Ailey company dancers. Through vivid descriptions and beautiful illustrations, DeFrantz reveals the relationship between Ailey's works and African American culture as a whole. He illuminates the dual achievement of Ailey as an artist and as an arts activist committed to developing an African American presence in dance. He also addresses concerns about how dance performance is documented, including issues around spectatorship and the display of sexuality, the relationship of Ailey's dances to civil rights activism, and the establishment and maintenance of a successful, large-scale Black Arts institution. Throughout Dancing Revelations, DeFrantz illustrates how Ailey combined elements of African dance with motifs adapted from blues, jazz, and Broadway to choreograph his dances. By re-interpreting these tropes of black culture in his original and well-received dances, DeFrantz argues that Ailey played a significant role in defining the African American cultural canon in the twentieth century. As the first book to examine the cultural sources and cultural impact of Ailey's work, Dancing Revelations is an important contribution to modern dance history and criticism as well as African-American studies.
