L'événement socio-historique radicalement révolutionnaire et humaniste qu'a constitué l'indépendance haïtienne n'a pas donné lieu à une dynamique de Progrès, mais à une société recluse, anomique et fragile. Le système social haïtien s'est donc révélé incapable de réaliser l'intégration moderne. Ainsi, arrive-t-il actuellement à une phase de perte d'équilibre totale et se retrouve au bord du précipice de l'Histoire. Cette périlleuse situation sociétale témoigne de la profonde et longue crise haïtienne du développement. Celle-ci résulte du fait que les principaux sous-systèmes sociétaux : le sous-système culturel, le sous-système social, le sous-système politique et le sous-système économique n'ont pas su remplir adéquatement leurs fonctions respectives. Ils ont en effet fonctionné de manière anachronique, perverse et chaotique. Cette étude, constituant sinon une nouvelle réflexion sur Les causes de nos malheurs (1882), du moins une nouvelle Enquête sur le développement (1974), ne s'inscrit nullement dans un schème explicatif défaitiste. Elle tente plutôt de procéder à l'intelligibilité des facteurs qui ont empêché la société haïtienne de se structurer et de fonctionner de façon moderne, ainsi que de se transformer méliorativement.

La storiografia sul rinnovamento dell'architettura e dell'urbanistica del Novecento ha dato grande spazio al contributo dei Congrès Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne (Ciam) che si tengono tra il 1928 e il 1959, mentre ha finora trascurato i congressi dell'International Federation for Housing and Town Planning (Ifhtp), erede della gloriosa Garden Cities and Town Planning Association fondata da Ebenezer Howard alle soglie del primo conflitto mondiale. È in questo ambito che il libro getta il suo sguardo tentando di ricostruire, a partire dal 1923, il portato di questa esperienza alla maturazione della cultura urbanistica moderna in un periodo caratterizzato da grandi trasformazioni urbane e territoriali e forti tensioni politiche, economiche e sociali. Una riflessione che si ferma al secondo conflitto mondiale quando, stravolta dalla guerra e dalla ricostruzione, cambierà la natura stessa delle sfide che la modernità novecentesca aveva posto sul tappeto all'alba del nuovo secolo. Renzo Riboldazzi (Novara, 1966), architetto, svolge attività didattica e di ricerca al Politecnico di Milano. Al centro dei suoi interessi culturali e professionali ci sono il progetto e la ricerca storico-critica nei campi dell'architettura e dell'urbanistica. Alla Facoltà di Architettura Civile ha insegnato, dal 2004, Progettazione urbanistica, Fondamenti di urbanistica, Analisi della città e del territorio e ha tenuto cicli di lezioni di Cultura del Progetto urbano. Presso il Dipartimento di Progettazione dell'architettura si è occupato dal 1998, oltre che del coordinamento delle attività dell'Archivio Piero Bottoni, di studi sulla cultura urbanistica moderna e contemporanea. Ha organizzato incontri e seminari e curato mostre di architettura, urbanistica, pittura e scultura. Dal 2008 è condirettore dell'Archivio Cesare Chiodi. Une contribution à l'histoire de l'islamisme algérien qui privilégie la présentation de textes souvent inédits et traduits de l'arabe. Y sont abordés : la politique selon le FIS, l'hérésie laïque, le FIS et l'armée, le rôle de la violence, la famille, les rapports avec l'Occident. Un livre qui présente l'islamisme Algérien de l'intérieur. L’ouverture politique pratiquée en Algérie après les émeutes d’octobre 1988 a profondément modifié les conditions du débat politique dans ce pays. Parmi les formations légalisées, le Front islamique du Salut (FIS), était celle qui avait le mieux réussi dans les années 1990, à capitaliser le mécontentement des « laissés-pour-compte », d’une société régie depuis l’indépendance par un parti unique, et à les mobiliser dans un projet de conquête du pouvoir au nom des interprétation de la culture islamique. Cet ouvrage revient sur ce mouvement interdit depuis 1992 par le tribunal administratif d’Alger. Était-ce un avatar du phénomène islamiste qui a agité le monde arabe et musulman ? Si le mouvement a cherché incontestablement à renouer avec une identité oubliée, en s’inspirant d’idéologies de l’islam politique mêlées de références au nationalisme arabe, il n’en exprimait pas moins les contradictions d’une société qui doit assumer les héritages complexes de son histoire, tout comme les enjeux de sa situation géographique. Peu nombreux, les écrits consacrés au mouvement islamiste algérien sont, de plus, rarement présentés de l’intérieur. Ni plaidoirie ni réquisitoire, le présent ouvrage – qui fait largement appel à des textes produits par le FIS, et dont beaucoup sont difficilement accessibles – vise à présenter au lecteur francophone l’éventail le plus complet possible des discours que tenaient les islamistes algériens sur leur propre société à l’époque.
