Traditionally women have found recourse in artistic means to interrogate change and upheaval. This volume explores the experiences of women from Spain, Portugal and Latin America in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries who themselves have crossed cultural boundaries or have described this experience in their literature and film. Areas investigated in this collection of essays include the experience of the exiled or the immigrant and their personal or collective response to displacement and adaptation: the transcultural potential of cyberspace for women, how patterns and styles of the fashion industry have crossed borders, how women have crossed canonical cultural boundaries in search of identity and meaning, how global cultural influences have manifested in Hispanic and Lusophone cultural practices and production by or about women, and the challenging question of whether canine writing can be considered a branch of feminist theory. Common to most of the essays are the central issues of identity, values, conflict and interconnectedness and an analysis of the patterns that result from the transcultural encounter of these aspects.

"All women marry," is a popular saying in India. The author's quest is for single women, an exceptional group in a country where 99% of women are married. She is determined to find women without a single man among them. She wants to find out what drives them to live alone. In this book, she portrays widows, never-married and divorced women in a narrative way. Unemployed Leela, confident Aprajita and noble Geetanjali all openly shared their struggles, loves and choices. She put these stories out despite the gossip and denunciations of neighbors and family. They hear so many contradictions, that they no longer know what is real. A portion of the proceeds from this book goes to the foundation of Sister Mary. See www.dalitwomenpower.org for more details. Nanda Huneman (1976) is a freelance journalist, a writer and a writing teacher. In 2004, she completed her studies in journalism. A year later, she had her own writing business, WONDER WORD. She also conducts creative writing workshops. In her work, she mixes journalism and creative writing styles. She handles her interviews in a narrative, sometimes even poetic way. She has been in India for more than ten years. This colorful and mysterious land is a constant source of inspiration for her stories. www.wonder-word.com

Dangerous Women addresses the themes of Korean nationalism and gender construction, as well as various issues related to the colonialization and decolonialization of the Korean nation. The contributors explore the troubled category of "woman," placing it in the specific context of a marginalized and colonized nation. But Korean women are not merely configured here as metaphors for an emasculated and infantilized "homeland;" they are also shown to be products of a problematic gender construction that originates in Korea, and extends even today to Korean communities beyond Asia. Representations of Korean women still attempt to confine them to the status of either mother or prostitute: Dangerous Women rectifies that construction, offering a feminist intervention that might recuperate womanhood.

First published in 2008. Women and Empire, 1750-1939 functions to extend significantly the range of the History of Feminism series (co-published by Routledge and Edition Synapse), bringing together the histories of British and American women's emancipation, represented in earlier sets, into juxtaposition with histories produced by different kinds of imperial and colonial governments. The alignment of writings from a range of Anglo-imperial contexts reveals the overlapping histories and problems, while foregrounding cultural specificities and contextual inflections of imperialism. The volumes focus on countries, regions, or continents formerly colonized (in part) by Britain: Volume I: Australia, Volume II: New Zealand, Volume III: Africa, Volume IV: India, Volume V: Canada. Perhaps the most novel aspect of this collection is its capacity to highlight the common aspects of the functions of empire in their impact on women and their production of gender, and conversely, to demonstrate the actual specificity of particular regional manifestations. Concerning questions of power, gender, class and race, this new Routledge-Edition Synapse Major Work will be of particular interest to scholars and students of imperialism, colonization, women's history, and women's writing.
