Die Menschen sahen mit voller Erwartung dem Ende der Welt und der Wiederankunft Christi am Jüngsten Tag entgegen. Viele Geschichtsschreiber und Quellen berichten daher von merkwürdigen Zeichen und Erlebnissen, die mit diesen Endzeitvorstellungen in Verbindung gebracht wurden und als vermeintliche Indikatoren für die Apokalypse galten. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich speziell mit Gregor von Tours „Zehn Bücher Geschichten“, die Aufschluss über das politische und religiöse Leben zur Zeit der Merowinger geben und somit ein wesentliches Zeugnis europäischer Geschichte darstellen. In seinem Werk schildert Gregor auch seltsame Beobachtungen und berichtet von sogenannten „Wunderzeichen“, die im Rahmen dieser Arbeit in den Fokus geraten sollen. Es gilt herauszufinden, wie Gregors Erzählungen in den Kontext des mittelalterlichen Endzeitdenkens eingeordnet werden können und inwieweit die Weissagungen der Bibel seine Berichterstattung und Deutung beeinflusst haben.
