This efficiency start pinching with increasing energy bill. As the population increases, demand for energy also increases. To meet this ever-growing demand efficient utilization of electrical energy has gained importance in all aspects of energy usage. One way of efficient utilization of electric power is by adopting various measures that lead to energy conservation. To conserve energy, we need to identify, where in the energy could be saved i.e. the output should either remain the same or should increase but with a reduced consumption of energy. This is possible if an energy audit is performed. Islampur has immerged as a fast growing city in the recent times. The Uran Islampur Municipal Council has population of 67,391 of which 34,435 are males while 32,956 are females as per report released by Census India 2011. Uran Islampur Municipal Council has total administration over 14,376 houses to which it supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage and common facilities such as street light. Islampur Municipal Corporation has installed over 4000 street lights across the city. The street light consumes more than 3000 KW electrical power. The electricity bill for year 2015-16 is charged for Rs. 47,41,624/-. The street light involves installation of Sodium vapour fixture Shed (250W, 150W & 70W), PL shed (144W, 72W), Tube shed (40W), CFL shed (36W), LED shed (72W), High mast pole (400W, 150W). These lamps operate over wide range of efficiency ranging from 10% to 80%. Thus there exists a scope for electrical energy conservation in this part.This survey report illustrates installation of street light, their power consumptions, working status and adequacy. If the current street light installations are replaced by LED lights it is expected to archive 60% to 70% saving of electrical power. Which in turn would reduce electricity bill to half.
