Auparavant, nous considérions tarife en 3 étapes dissociées : études - travail - retraite. La vie est aujourd'hui en perpétuelle évolution, où les temps de travail, de formation et de loisirs s'enchevêtrent. Il est aujourd'hui paradoxal de constater que si les moins de 50 ans considèrent la retraite comme une fin, les plus de 50 ans la voient eux comme un nouveau départ! L'augmentation constante de l'espérance de vie et l'amélioration de la qualité de vie ont ouvert de nouveaux horizons à nos seniors qui, à l'âge retraite, ont encore une trentaine de belles années devant eux pour concrétiser leurs projets d'avenir. Avec un temps d'avance sur notre société, ces seniors que l'on considère à tort comme " finis " l'ont compris : la vieillesse est une source d'opportunités et peut-être la période la plus libre de la vie ! Combien de temps nous faudra-t-il encore pour le comprendre et donner aux seniors la place qui leur revient ?

Spaces of Polyphony covers a lot of ground. It echoes the voices of researchers and their informants from many different places and backgrounds. Among the variety of languages under study and methodological approaches there is also a common ground and narrative thread underpinning the polyphonic chorus of the contributors. From a shared starting point of discourse analysis and inspiration from Bakhtin, the various authors span from East to West, from Moscow to Texas, from Romania and Czech Republic to Mexico. They look into all ages, starting from early childhood, and many walks of life, ranging from casual chatting among relatives to parliamentary speeches and TV shows, including formal education, literary inner monologue and translation. Irony, humour and self-awareness are recurrent themes.
