Applications of meteorological principles to environmental problems, though broadly known, are neither widely understood nor studied in detail. With increasing awareness of environmental status and for sustainable development without environmental degradation, much care is being taken, particularly in respect of atmospheric environment. Even though Environmental Meteorology forms part of the curriculum of M.Sc. (Environmental Science) in universities there is no comprehensive textbook available on the subject. This book, encompassing all the aspects of Environmental Meteorology, is being brought forth sensing that very lacuna. Besides being used as a textbook, it would also serve as a reference book to Environmental Experts as well as Scientists/Engineers in State and Central Pollution Control Boards, as also industries like Indian Oil Corporation, National Thermal Power Corporation and the likes.

The VDI Commission on Air Pollution Prevention - in cooperation with the German Meteorological Society - presents in this book the proceedings of the first International Symposium on "Environmental Meteorology", held in Wurzburg (West Germany) from 29 September to 1 October 1987. The primary goal was to get together scientists, experts of the meteorological services, specialists of environmental boards, and consulting engineers of the European countries. An equally important objective was to provide a bench mark document in the resulting proceedings publication. The 1987 symposium shall start a series of symposia on all fields of environmental meteorology to be held once in three or four years in one of the European countries. We are full of hope to come to an intense cooperation with the national meteorological and environmental societies in the countries with this concern. We like to express our sincere appreciation to the authors for their efforts and attention to the quality shown herein. The credit must be extended to the session Chairmen and to the advisory committee for the selection of the papers. We think the book contributes substantially to a better understanding of meteorology being the link between emission and deposition of atmospheric pollutants.

First Principles Of Meteorology And Air Pollution written by Mihalis Lazaridis and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-18 with Science categories.

This book’s main objective is to decipher for the reader the main processes in the atmosphere and the quantification of air pollution effects on humans and the environment, through first principles of meteorology and modelling/measurement approaches. The understanding of the complex sequence of events, starting from the emission of air pollutants into the atmosphere to the human health effects as the final event, is necessary for the prognosis of potential risk to humans from specific chemical compounds and mixtures of them. It fills a gap in the literature by providing a solid grounding in the first principles of meteorology and air pollution, making it particularly useful for undergraduate students. Its broad scope makes it a valuable text in many related disciplines, containing a comprehensive and integrated methodology to study the first principles of air pollution, meteorology, indoor air pollution, and human exposure. Problem-solving exercises help to reinforce concepts.

TheHandbook of Meteorology gives specialists and non-specialists alike a clear understanding of the way our weather functions. It provides scientific answers to questions that arise when looking at the world around us. It starts with the basics of weather—temperature, pressure, humidity, and wind—before moving on to cover highs, lows, fronts, and storms, and finally ending with a look at weather forecasts, cloud watching, weather tools, and much more. The Handbook of Meteorology provides a condensed but all-inclusive broad sweep of meteorology, employing several illustrations to translate detailed technical information into terms that everyone can follow and readily refer to. It is a comprehensive reference for any budding meteorologist or environmental professional in the field, laboratory, or classroom.

What do we mean by the tropics? The weather and the climates it produces across the tropical zone are significantly different from those experienced by the people living in higher latitudes, so forecasters across Europe and much of North America are unfamiliar with its effects. In this book, Jim Galvin demystifies the topic in this zone that is increasingly of interest to those studying weather and climate. This book was written for weather forecasters, meteorology, environmental science and geography students as an introductory guide. It builds on the experience of the author, his professional experience in the World Area Forecast Centre at the Met Office, Exeter, using studies into the weather and climate seen within the tropical air mass conducted over many years. Its unique approach presents a practical approach to tropical weather studies, drawing on both academic and practical knowledge, covering air mass dynamics, seasonal changes, moist and dry weather, climate variability and human health in chapters and appendices that build up the overall picture, summarising our current state of knowledge. As an overview, it covers the broad range of effects connected with climate and weather in a straightforward way and is clearly illustrated throughout.
