The Equality and Human Rights Commission has an important role and powers that enable them to make a difference in British society. Their mandate is to challenge discrimination, promote equality of opportunity, and protect and promote human rights. In this Strategic Plan, they have set out an ambitious programme to further their aims over the next three years. Their dual roles as a National Equality Body and National Human Rights Institution underpin the four strategic aims developed to guide their work in 2016-19. These are: (1) Significant impact - to secure advances in equality and human rights in priority areas (2) A strong evidence base - to provide authoritative analysis and insight (3) Sustainable infrastructure - to ensure an effective and sustainable infrastructure to protect rights in practice (4) Improved capability - to be an expert, independent and authoritative national body Their evidence base comprises 'Is Britain Fairer?' and the equivalent reports for England, Scotland and Wales. They used these and other sources of information, such as work to monitor progress against international human rights treaty obligations and responses to the public consultation on the draft plan, to inform the areas on which they will be focusing our efforts from 2016-19.

About the publication This book focuses on the strategies that activists for LGBTIQ+ equality in Africa deploy to challenge deep seated homophobia and transphobia, as well as the politicisation of LGBTIQ+ issues. It is a peer-reviewed, edited volume with scholarly contributions from lawyers, anthropologists, and LGBTIQ+ activists. It covers different country situations – those where equality is taking root, as the case is in South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique; those where homophobia reigns and LGBTIQ+ rights are politicised such as, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, and Zambia; and those where traditional LGBTIQ+ activism is almost a nonstarter, such as in Ethiopia, Sudan and The Gambia. Law And Sustainable Development After Covid 19 written by Augustine Edobor Arimoro and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-20 with Law categories.

This book considers the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the realisation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Although efforts towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals are ongoing, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on these efforts: accentuating inequities, as well as absorbing resources. This book addresses this impact, as it takes up the question of how to ensure global recovery – in line with the target for the Sustainable Development Goals – after the pandemic. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, but focusing particularly on the role of law and legal frameworks in this recovery, the book considers the effect of the pandemic on key industries such as shipping, insurance, manufacturing, and banking, as well as on the role of the State and non-State actors. Pursuing an explicitly Global South perspective, the book maintains that in the post-COVID era it is the elaboration a rule of law framework that is in sync with both the Global North and South that is crucial if the Sustainable Development Goals are to be achieved. This book will be of value to scholars, students and policymakers working in the general area of law and development, but especially those with specific interests in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
