El contenido de la obra esta integrado por el proceso de aprendizaje de la equitacion por un jinete, Lo, de entre 12 y 14 anos, desde que monta por primera vez hasta que hace su primera prueba en concurso de saltos. Simultaneamente se procede a la doma del caballo que monta, Spectrum (edad: 5). Una manera de guiar y formar al jinete desde su inicio para que tenga una base solida e intelectual sobre la que construir una equitacion de calidad. Este es un tratado personalizado, que combina la exposicion de la teoria (en ciertos temas, profunda) con la descripcion de la practica, con retazos muy escuetos de la vida de los personajes; una especie de dialogos entre Cartesius, el maestro y Lo, el alumno, lo que hace al libro novedoso. Se ha omitido cualquier dibujo o imagen, que pueden hallarse en casi todos los libros de equitacion, con la intencion de que sea el lector quien los haga y glose la obra a su deseo. Versa la obra en primer lugar sobre la definicion del sistema que llama el autor "equitacion cartesiana." Inmediatamente, se presenta al alumno jinete y al alumno caballo. Se habla de la obediencia del caballo. La estabilidad del jinete se va a trabajar comenzando sin riendas, sin y con estribos. Se ensena a poner en marcha el caballo, aumentos y disminuciones de velocidad. Se inicia el tema de giros. Hasta aqui al paso, ahora se comienza el trote, ingles y en suspension; y se hace un avance del galope. Toca ahora conocer las riendas, la boca del caballo y la accion de las manos. La monta con riendas se comienza al paso, despues al trote. Toda esta monta se lleva a efecto en callejones dispuestos a fin de que ni jinete ni caballo tengan dificultad en ir por la linea recta. Se estudian los efectos de rienda y como hacer los giros. Se vuelve a estudiar el galope y se hace un compendio de todo lo aprendido. Examen de correcciones de desvios previo analisis de la rienda de apoyo y del movimiento "ceder a la pierna." Breve apunte de la equitacion de exterior. Figuras de picadero. La longitud de riendas, el equilibrio, la impulsion y el caballo en la mano. El punto fijo en el cuerpo del jinete. La rienda exterior. Galope. Viaje a Verona, laboratorios. Saltos de obstaculos, examen del recorrido y ejecucion de la prueba.
