Dieses Buch widmet sich Fragen zur musikalisch-literarischen Form des Liederzyklus am Beispiel eines bisher von der Forschung wenig beachteten Werks: der Sechs Gedichte von Nikolaus Lenau und Requiem op. 90 von Robert Schumann. Das Werk entstand im August 1850. Im Liedschaffen Schumanns nimmt es eine charakteristische Position zwischen den berühmten Kompositionen des »Liederjahrs« 1840 und dem Spätwerk der 1850er-Jahre ein. Die Studie leistet eine gattungsgeschichtliche und -systematische Einordnung des Werks unter Berücksichtigung aktueller Forschungsdiskurse, unterzieht es einer ausführlichen Analyse und unternimmt eine Werkinterpretation vor dem Hintergrund gesellschaftlicher Zusammenhänge der Entstehungszeit. Als Kontexte der Werkerschließung dienen Künstlerrolle und Denkmalgedanke, wie sie im Schrifttum der ersten Hälfte des 19.
