Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Politik - Thema: Frieden und Konflikte, Sicherheit, Note: 2,0, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Veranstaltung: Bürgerkriege: Eine gewaltsame Form innerstaatlicher Konfliktaustragung, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit richtet ihren Blick auf die Situation nach dem spanischen Bürgerkrieg und geht der Frage nach, wie Erinnerungspolitik im Franco-Regime zum Zweck der Legitimation eingesetzt wurde. Dabei werden zuerst die zweite spanische Republik als Ausgangspunkt für den Bürgerkrieg, sowie dessen Verlauf und Folgen behandelt, um zum Betrachtungspunkt hinzuführen und diesen festzusetzen. Anschließend wird der Fragestellung anhand zweier Theorien der Erinnerungskulturen nachgegangen, welche im darauffolgenden Unterpunkt auf die Erinnerungspolitik im Franquismus angewandt werden. Ein weiterer theoretischer Aspekt beschäftigt sich dann mit Ideologie und Propaganda als Kriterien für den Totalitarismus, was hinsichtlich der bedeutsamen Rolle der katholischen Kirche bei der Legitimation des Franco-Regimes bearbeitet wird. Schließlich endet die Arbeit mit einem Ausblick auf die Erinnerungskultur im postdiktatorischen Spanien nach 1975. „An den Kampfesstätten, wo das Feuer der Waffen glänzte und das Blut der Helden floß, werden wir Stelen und Denkmäler errichten, in die wir die Namen derer einmeißeln werden, die Tag für Tag mit ihrem Tod den Tempel des Neuen Spanien errichten, damit eines Tages die Wanderer und Reisenden vor den glorreichen Steinen innehalten und der heldenhaften Erbauer dieses großen spanischen Vaterlandes gedenken.“ Mit diesen Worten führte Francisco Franco am 19. April 1937, dem Gründungstag der faschistischen Einheitspartei Falange, aus, wie er sich Erinnerungspolitik vorstellte. Dabei diente die franquistische Erinnerungspolitik während Francos Regierungszeit einzig dazu, das eigene Regime als in der Tradition der glorreichen spanischen Geschichte stehend zu legitimieren. Zu diesem Zweck bemächtigten sich die Franquisten von Beginn des Bürgerkrieges an des öffentlichen Raumes: Sie entfernten Symbole der Demokratie, änderten Straßen- und Ortsnamen und sogar den Festtagskalender. Durch symbolische Politik sollte die Herrschaft legitimiert und das entstehende Regime stabilisiert werden. Die Hauptquelle meiner Arbeit bildet Professor Dr. phil. Walther L. BerneckerS Buch „Kampf der Erinnerungen. Der Spanische Bürgerkrieg in Politik und Gesellschaft 1936-2006“, da es eine der wenigen Quellen ist, die schon innerhalb der Zeit der Franco-Diktatur ansetzen und nicht erst im postdiktatorischen Spanien nach 1975.

The study of modern racism has tended to treat anti-Semitism and anti-black racism as separate and unconnected phenomena. This innovative study argues that a full understanding of the origins and development of racism in Europe after 1870 needs to examine the structure and interrelationships between the two dominant forms of prejudice. Contrary to expectation. anti-black racism was not confined to the colonial maritime nations of western Europe, but pepetrated even the rural societies of central and eastern Europe. Likewise, anti-Semitism could flourish even in the almost total absence of Jews. MacMaster explores the conditions under which modern political movements, faced with the crisis of modernity, began to draw upon and mobilise the negative stereotypes that, through the development of the mass media, had become almost universal features of popular culture. By weaving together the changing spatial and temporal dimensions of anti-Semitic and anti-black prejudice the study provides a fresh and more global framework for understanding modern racism.

‘Race’ was essentially a construction of the 18th century, a means by which the Enlightenment could impose rational order on human variety. In this book, the art historian David Bindman argues that ideas of beauty were from the beginning inseparable from race, as Europeans judged the civility and aesthetic capacity of other races by their appearance. These judgements were combined with a conflict between those who wished to order humanity into separate races, and those who believed in a common humanity whose differences were due to climatic and geographical variations. Central to this debate was the work of Linnaeus and Buffon, but it was also driven by the writings of the German art historian J. J. Winckelmann, who argued for the supremacy of the ancient Greeks, the Swiss physiognomist J. C. Lavater, who believed that moral character could be deduced from the study of a person’s face, and by two scientists – the father and son Reinhold and Georg Forster – who had been on Captain Cook’s second voyage to the South Seas in 1772–5.During this time the philosopher Immanuel Kant attempted the first modern definition of race, a definition which was challenged by Georg Forster and the philosopher J. G. von Herder, sparking a lively but astonishingly little-known controversy that went on through the next decade and beyond.
