"The Administrative Guidelines: Pilot and Escort Vehicle Driver Accreditation Procedures, October 2004 has been forwarded to road agencies in each State and Territory. The agencies are now expected to incorporate and use the administrative guideline in association with their own procedures, where applicable. The administrative guideline was initially prepared by Queensland Transport as the Lead Agency on behalf of the NTC for the Third Heavy Vehicle Reform Package Project 1.4(b) Pilot and Escort Operations. The administrative guideline provides a framework suitable for jurisdictions that accredit pilot and escort vehicle drivers and aims to ensure that the accreditation and mutual recognition of pilots and escorts for oversize vehicles and combinations is consistent throughout Australia. The framework is intended to allow pilot and escort vehicle drivers to operate between jurisdictions in accordance with individual jurisdiction requirements. Although not all jurisdictions have accreditation systems, most pilot and escort vehicle drivers operate in accordance with national competency standards.
