Latin American Cultural Studies A Reader written by Jens Andermann and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-03 with Social Science categories.

Featuring twenty-five key essays from the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies (Traves/sia), this book surveys the most influential themes and concepts, as well as scouring some of the polemics and controversies, which have marked the field over the last quarter of a century since the Journal's foundation in 1992. Emerging at a moment of crisis of revolutionary narratives, and at the onset of neoliberal economics and emergent narcopolitics, the cultural studies impetus in Latin America was part of an attempted intellectual reconstruction of the (centre-) left in terms of civil society, and the articulation of social movements and agencies, thinking beyond the verticalist constructions from previous decades. This collection maps these developments from the now classical discussions of the ‘cultural turn’ to more recent responses to the challenges of biopolitics, affect theory, posthegemony and ecocriticism. It also addresses novel political constellations including resurgent national-popular or eco-nativist and indigenous agencies. Framed by a critical introduction from the editors, this volume is both a celebration of influential essays published over twenty five years of the Journal and a representative overview of the field in its multiple ramifications, entrenchments and exchanges.

World Literature Decentered written by Ian Almond and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-13 with Literary Criticism categories.

What would world literature look like, if we stopped referring to the “West”? Starting with the provocative premise that the “‘West’ is ten percent of the planet”, World Literature Decentered is the first book to decenter Eurocentric discourses of global literature and global history – not just by deconstructing or historicizing them, but by actively providing an alternative. Looking at a series of themes across three literatures (Mexico, Turkey and Bengal), the book examines hotels, melancholy, orientalism, femicide and the ghost story in a series of literary traditions outside the “West”. The non-West, the book argues, is no fringe group or token minority in need of attention – on the contrary, it constitutes the overwhelming majority of this world.

Melancholy And Culture written by Roger Bartra and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Education categories.

"During the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, texts on melancholy began to circulate in Europe aimed at the general reading public and not purely for specialists in mental illness. The first book on melancholy written in vernacular language was the Libro de la melancholia by Spanish doctor Andres Velasquez. This book takes his work as a starting point from which to study the broad panorama of melancholy in Spain in the period and goes on to examine the importance of melancholy in Cervantes' Don Quixote and also examines the criticisms directed at Velasquez's work by Dr. Juan Huarte de San Juan in the Examen de ingenios para las ciencias (known in English as 'Triall of Wits')." "Roger Bartra's history explores the relation between culture and melancholy, using as his framework the notion that culture is not the antidote against the chaos of melancholy, or that the culture of melancholy can be studied in isolation; rather that he sees culture as melancholy, and melancholy as culture."--Jacket.
