A obra Esotérica com S: multiplicidade religiosa, corpo e gênero em um terreiro de Umbanda é resultado de um trabalho etnográfico com objetivo de compreender como uma cosmologia tão múltipla, definida pelos umbandistas como afrouniversalista, atravessa a composição e a topologia de forças de territórios, como o terreiro e o corpo, que são polarizados pelo gênero, como um organizador ritual, e povoados por seres outros. Exu e o tempo aparecem como grandes promotores de encontros que cruzam os caminhos — linhas de força biográfica — dos/das médiuns com o terreiro, com seus guias, com a cidade, com o mundo, que, no limite, é um grande terreiro-território. Mostrando-nos que nem tudo que se ajunta se mistura, o estilo pluralista ou politeísta parece dar o tom da arte de unir a diferença sem se acabar com heterogeneidade nem perder seu pertencimento umbandista. A matriz afro aqui é entendida como uma perspectiva transformacional, sugerindo que todas as linhas podem fazer parte de um contínuo heterogêneo. O terreiro, antes de tudo, é um lugar naturalmente dado aos encontros, e seus habitantes — médiuns, exus/pombagiras, caboclos/caboclas, pretos velhos/pretas velhas, crianças, seres extraterrenos, seres intraterrenos, seres da natureza — são especialistas em uma política cósmica da diferença entre mundos múltiplos, divergentes e, por vezes, perigosos. Esses seres outros também estão em movimento, modificando-se, criando sua própria história de vida e, de alguma forma, sendo coetâneos a nós. Essa cosmologia afeta a geografia, a topologia de forças, a arquitetura e organização ritual, os conceitos e teorias nativas sobre corrente mediúnica, corpo, noção de pessoa e aprendizagem no terreiro, compondo uma epistemologia umbandista, que é complexa, reflexiva, formadora de conceitos, teoria, práticas e ontologias nativas que não são apenas "boas para pensar".
