O uso de Sistemas de Informação Geográfica (SIG) vem crescendo dentro dos mais diversos campos do conhecimento onde a informação de localização é relevante. Os estudos intra-urbanos não são exceção a esta regra. Entretanto, nestes estudos, a complexidade do objeto de análise exige uma abordagem multidimensional. Dificilmente os processos que atuam na definição destes espaços podem ser estudados isoladamente. Esta complexidade desafia os estudiosos a formularem modelos conceituais capazes de capturar a informação necessária à análise que se queira fazer. Em geoprocessamento, um modelo é uma representação simplificada de determinado fenômeno que se fundamenta na construção de abstrações em diferentes níveis. Para que se possa utilizar o geoprocessamento em estudos intra-urbanos é necessário que se conheça os alcances e limitações da tecnologia, reconhecendo as especificidades da linguagem matemática subjacente a ela. O processo de modelagem de dados parte do reconhecimento dos conceitos relevantes à análise e se consolida nas possibilidades de manipulação matemático-computacional destes dados. Aqui, o conceito que fundamenta a análise é o de Estrutura Intra-Urbana como definido por Villaça em seu trabalho?O Espaço Intra-Urbano no Brasil?. A partir dele, apresenta-se um estudo de caso sobre a Cidade de São Paulo onde são discutidas as questões relativas à modelagem de dados intra-urbanos e às possibilidades de inferências quantitativas sobre eles. Dentre estas, são abordadas as questões relativas ao Problema das Unidades de Áreas Modificáveis (MAUP), os Indicadores Locais de Autocorrelação Espacial (LISA) e a utilização de técnicas geoestatísticas na construção de campos numéricos para dados intra-urbanos. ABSTRACT: The use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is increasing in a wide range of research fields where information related to location is relevant. Intra-urban studies are not an exception to the rule. However, in this case, the complexity of the object of study demands a multidimensional approach. Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: Not only time has influence on the formation of societies, but also space. People do not only write history, they also produce spaces. And just like history retroacts on social development processes, space forms society. A socially segregated society is controlled through space. The place of residence of a person already determines a big part of its fixed opportunities and conditions. Also, the living location is already suggested by the social class of a person within a capitalist structured society. Those socio-spatial structures lead to an unjust distribution of all kinds of goods, such as the access to basic living conditions, public services, infrastructure, education and work, and psychologically or socially defined restricted spaces. Injustices therefore can only be cured by changing their spatial manifestations. As Brazil is one of the economically uprising and promising BRIC countries, its development involves chances and risks. If unjust conditions remain, its long-term advancement is rather unlikely. The changes within the country are especially visible and present in its principal metropolis: São Paulo. In order to analyze its present situation in terms of spatially produced social (in)justices, some questions must be answered: How is spatial justice produced and by which processes? How are those processes integrated in Brazil s urbanization development? Which effects does it have on the urban structure of São Paulo? And finally: Which socio-spatial development tendencies do the actual public policies and their realization within the metropolis suggest? In the following, I will outline a theoretical base of the term spatial justice, the development of Brazil - and in this context the effects on São Paulo s urbanization -with respect to its economy, politics, society, history, and especially urbanization in order to analyze São Paulo s socio-spatial development and present situation in a multidimensional context. Applying Henri Lefèbvre s, David Harvey s, and Edward Soja s theories on spatial justice on the public policies of the metropolis since the City Statute of 2001 - a major change in Brazil s urban politics -, I will look into their conformance with the necessary production conditions of spaces of justice. Residential segregation is a key issue for good governance in Latin American cities. The isolation of people of different social classes or ethnicities has potential political and social consequences, including differential access to and quality of education, health and other services. This volume uses the recent availability of geo-coded census data and techniques of spatial analysis to conduct the first detailed comparative examination of residential segregation in six major Latin American metropolises, with Austin, Texas, as a US comparison. It demonstrates the high degree of residential segregation of contemporary Latin American cities and discusses implications for the welfare of urban residents.
